Curacao with wheelchair

We have been to Curacao twice. I have crossed the bridge with a manual wheelchair. The alternative, when the bridge is open, is a ferry boat...............haven't tried that, just waited for the bridge to come back. :) Cut outs were not always convenient in town, but I was able to get around quite handily.

DD is correct, the floating bridge is nicely accessible. In fact there is a very nice paved pathway from the the dock area to the floating bridge. The bridge itself is very stable and when you are on it, it's just like any other roadway bridge. I had this mental picture of something rocky and on pontoons or something before I actually saw it, but that is not the case (if that is your worry). There is level access to the bridge an it's a pleasant walk over to the Punda (shopping district).

The ferry is not what you wold call accessible -- there is a 2-3 inch step down and no ramps. It is only a short distance and there are not tie downs or securements and it can rock and roll a bit. It's a quick turn around too -- the locals just kind of storm the poor little ferry boat ands there is not place to sit down. It's one of those "old local ferrys". But it usually doens't take long for the bridge to be back in place and to be honest, it is kind of cool to watch.

We used a manual wheelchair, which I would recommend over a scooter. There are many places in town with few curb cuts, and it is a step up into many of the shops which you can do with a manual chair, but not with a scooter. A scooter can take up too much room in many small shops as well.
