WindSpirit - Which cabin?

OK How about advice on choosing the all important cabin? I need a quiet cabin.

I understand that those on the lower level are worth avoiding because of the proximity of the water. True?

Assuming I choose a cabin on the higher level is it better to be beneath the restaurant or say, the casino? Does it matter?

Advice most welcome.

On the Windstar (sister to the Windspirit) we were on the lower level (didn't think it was worth the extra cost to avoid one flight of stairs) and had no problem with noise, in fact the sound of the waves was very sleep inducing.

Since there is only one seating for dinner (though you don't have to show up as soon as the restaurant opens) being under the restaurant shouldn't matter. Dinners are nice and long and relaxing.

I understand the cabins near the back of the ship (lower numbered cabins) are to be avoided if possible due to engine noise.

We were in cabin 132. The only noise issues we had were one night when some teenagers two doors down got too drunk (it was New Year's Eve but the parents should have been monitoring their girls) and were crying loudly all night long. At one point (probably at about 3 a.m.) we heard the captain talking to the parents, asking if he could help in anyway. That didn't help, the noise continued. So, you could be in the quietest location, but inconsiderate neighbors could disrupt your calm vacation.

If all else fails, there's always Ambien.

If you decide to go, I'm sure you will have a terrific time. I can't wait until my second Windstar cruise, coming up this November.

We have sailed aboard Wind Spirit a number of times and have always tried for the cabin farthest forward for two reasons: it is in the most stable area of the ship (though that is usually not a problem as the ships are very stable); and there is an adjoining passenger cabin, with its noise potential, on only one side. The other side is crew area and I have NEVER heard noise from there.

I was once told by a fellow passenger that some cabins on the upper deck may experience noise from the sail machinery during the course of the night. I have no personal experience in that regard.

My wife and I are Windstar addicts. All of our cruises with them have been wonderful.
