Disney Fantasy-Restricted Fare

Has anybody booked on DCL under a restricted fare? I'm trying to get a feel for what kind of rooms you may have gotten. For those unfamiliar, they are discounted rates for upcoming cruises in the very near future. You pay for a guarantee category ie: inside, oceanview, verandah etc and then your stateroom is assigned a week or so prior. The prices are significantly cheaper.

I haven't booked on that rate but have been on the fantasy, firstly you will have a great cruise. Each rate normally is for a set type of rooms, inside or verandah etc and normally assignments generally follow that. I read some are lucky and get an upgrade but do not bank on that.

Contrary to rumor, these bookings do not result in the "worst" cabin of a given type. People who book VGT CAN get a cat 7, but many get a cat 4. And as noted above, you may book an IGT and end up with a balcony! It is a great deal if it fits your dates and you don't mind the restrictions (like no cancels, no name changes, pay in full at time of booking).

Thanks for all the replies. Decided to book OGT under this rate and inlaws VGT under the rate. IMO the price was certainly right and fit the cruise we wanted to sail on to a tee.

I have cruised before just not on DCL and have stayed in almost every category room available. Location on ship inset necessarily important to me.

I am with you completely. I just booked my family on a last minute IGT deal because it was such an amazing price. I have sailed Disney but we have always done the balcony cabins 5A to be specific. The kids are looking forward to the magic porthole that our inside cabin will have. I am ready for our stateroom assignment. Lol. I hope you and your family have an amazing time. We have enjoyed our experiences with DCL.

*GT cabin assignments usually come out 14-21 days before cruising. This is different from GTY assignments which are typically posted 30-45 days in advance.

Good luck' date=' and have a great time![/quote']

What is the difference between GT and GTY? My resv says Gty

When reservations for specific rooms within a specific category (4A, 9C, for example) have reached a certain percentage, the category goes GTY. You can still book a room in that category, but not a specific one. There is no break on the price, you pay the same as if you selected a specific room. DCL will assign the room at a later date (typically in the 45-60 days out range). Your reservation will show something like GTY 9C. And you are guaranteed that you will have at least a 9C room, or better.

If a cruise isn't selling well, last minute restricted fares are released. These are for TYPES of rooms: IGT - Inside Guarantee; OGT - Oceanview Guarantee; VGT - Verandah Guarantee. These fares are significantly reduced from the going rate for the same rooms, and have restrictictions (including must be paid in full at booking, and no refunds or changes allowed). Your reservation will show IGT (or OGT or VGT). You are guaranteed that you will have at least the type of room you have booked or better. These rooms assignments typically are done around 2 weeks out from the cruise.

We booked a VGT (veranda guarantee) for our DC this year. Got double bath rooms with regular veranda, with 3 rooms consecutive for our family (I hear this is rare, so yay for my vacation planner that put us all together!) and we could open up our balconies. Any veranda room is going to be good. Basically any room on a cruise I think is going to be great compared to other lines we have been on.

I wouldn't hesitate to book again, except that I used a 10% off voucher plus some reward dollars to book my May cruise since *GT rates cannot be guaranteed for the specific cruise I wanted. Still, if they are decent, I will be glad for others travelling in our party!

I have booked VGT on 2 cruises and a GTY on another cruise! For my VGT on the Dream I was VERY lucky and was assigned a 4B (larger family stateroom with verandah that has the round tub and murphy bed) The extra space was noticeable and appreciated.

I booked a 7A Gty (different than restricted fares!) for my Fantasy sailing last year.... we received a 5A - great aft location - quick run up to Cabanas - again very happy.

We are now VGT for my Magic sailing - I probably won't find out for another two weeks.

When did you find out about your assignments?

Oct 12 on Fantasy with a GTY. It's getting close and have not been assigned a cabin. How does DC notify you with the cabin number? I've received my cruise docs and luggage tags, but state room is blank. Thanks ahead for your comments and help

The best way is to keep logging in on their website and it will pop up, that's your first way to know.

This can occur, whilst normal GTY assignment is circa 45 days, say if it's a full cruise it can be later, I knew a family who didn't know until check in but it's rare.

I have a question about the VGT restricted rates

It says no refund or changes allowed , which is fine , however if for some reason we do not go on the cruise (not that anticipate anything but we have a 2 yr old) does that mean we will lose the money and the cruise? Or can it be used towards a different cruise?

No refund means no refund, no changes means no changes, sorry I apologise I really can't say it any other way, best go buy trip insurance.

yes sorry , it was a dumb :D .. maybe we do the insurance if its worth it ,,, i have to look into it

It's always asking if you do not know but that's why those fares are cheaper it's like restricted economy flight tickets they can't be moved.

Now think about it these normally are on offer after the paid in full date for people who booked normal fares, now whilst there will be a sliding scale of partial refunds, the specialist rates can't get more favourable terms than people past their sail by date, they would pay a percentage forfeit for any late change, these fares do not allow a change.

So trip insurance.

We sailed OGT on the Fantasy last year and it was wonderful! We got exactly what we booked: two oceanview cabins. They were the ones at the 'bottom' of the ship, just below the main lobby. The only negative was that they were only accepting 2 people per cabin for the OGT, so we ended up with two cabins rather than one for all 4 of us. We could easily have fit into one cabin, but it was cheaper to do the OGT and go with two. We requested that if possible the cabins be assigned together, and they were 5 doors apart. I honestly think this was the best they could do, given the limited inventory of oceanview cabins. Many people on the same sailing who booked VGT got their cabins together, but then there are many more verandahs than oceanviews.

We liked the discount and the cabins so much that we decided that we wanted to only sail OGT or VGT in the future. We have spent too many years with lots of money tied up in faraway future dummy bookings, and it isn't worth it. In fact, we're planning on doing another OGT/VGT cruise on the Fantasy next June. (And if Disney doesn't release those fares on the cruise we want, we do have a backup planned. ;) )
