Seem Viking has been auditioning for the usual cast of revue entertainers (singers/dancers). Rehearsals started late January - early February. Thanks goodness no sign anywhere of a Salute to Motown show!

More extensive hints about the types of shows expected to be staged here:

Don't know if it is boilerplate text but not very progressive if they refer to Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita as contemporary musical theater.

Lastly, check out this description of what Mertz Productions has for a typical day aboard a Viking Oceans ship for its entertainers. I'm willing to bet the stationing someone at shuffleboard each day at 10:15 will be dropped by the time Star gets to Barcelona on the maiden voyage.

I loved the fact that they'll be potentially "leading shore excursions" to places they've never been. And we'll be relying on them for safety, as they'll be trained by then. Yikes!

The information states the entertainers will be escorting excursions, not leading them... This is quite customary.

Yes, on the cruise lines I've sailed on, those poor entertainers put up with having to lead all sorts of activities, plus do their part in the muster drill (as do the stateroom attendants and just about every member of the ship's crew!) Of course, if they do their job well (in addition to singing, dancing, entertaining well) they are also sometimes promoted to assistant cruise directors and then cruise directors, which I guess isn't a bad thing for most of them. I do, however, feel a little sorry for the 25 year old singer who has to do the morning golf whatever competition!

Thanks for the latest entertainment info - interesting! Sounds like just another cruise line, but that's OK. I seldom go to the shows when I'm cruising, anyway!
