Experiences with Viking Air

We have a spring 2016 cruise on Viking Star. Just now starting to think about air tickets.

We have never before used the cruise lines for booking air travel as often we stay a week or so longer after getting off the ship.

We're trying Viking Air for this trip. However, we do want to be able to have input on our flight selection and also arrive in Barcelona three days before our cruise.

Can anyone comment on their experience with this portion of the trip?

Thanks,

Janice

We are on the Viking Homelands cruise this July. When we originally booked we were told that we could use Viking Custom Air to deviate and stay extra time before and/or after the cruise as well as stop over at another location. We were also told we could select our flights. When the time came to book the air we were told that selecting our flights was not available for our cruise and not all of the stopover cities were available to us either. We would not be told our flights until very close to the cruise which would be too late to book our own flights at that point. Given all these unknowns we booked our own flights and took the air credit. I would find out if your particular cruise is eligible for all the Custom Air requests. We could have gotten a better price if we booked or own air earlier had we known what we know know.

We have had the same experiences as Terrier1. I tried to use their custom air dept, but they only offer a few flight option and we were able to find better flights on our own. You can always pay the custom air fee and they will refund it if after you talk with them, you decide you can do better on your own.

We're on the Med Christmas cruise and we have our air already booked with Viking. Because of the airfare discount they are offering, I couldn't find any airfare online that was cheaper. We booked the pre and post hotel stays and airfare through Viking. We were charged the air deviation fee of $50.00 per person. This also includes the transportation between ship/airport/hotel. I believe that you can also add additional days.

First of all, rules for Viking Oceans are different from Viking Rivers.

Transfer is only available on original dates unless you book the Viking extension.

Custom air has a charge even for previous VRC passengers.

We used Viking Oceans air arrangements and we were happy with them.
