i enjoyed reading the latest review of the Europa 2

i am curious to know the opinion of other past passengers about the fact there is no casino on board ?

a few weeks ago i was on crystal serenity and 2 couples told me that was the reason for not travelling on the Europa 2 .

As someone for whom the presence of a casino on a cruise ship has no appeal whatsoever, I have often wondered why some people regard the presence of one a requirement for an enjoyable cruise.

For me, a casino on a cruise ship is just another revenue stream for the Cruise Line.

So, bravo to Hapag-Lloyd for omitting one.

Totally agree. We never spend any money in the Casino if there is one so no need as far as we are concerned.

i occasionnaly do play for a very small amount on a seaday on other ships

i even noticed some passengers ran to local casino's - Malta Rhodes La Coruna and in Caribbean Aruba and Antigua when the casino on the ship is closed

however in reactions from other past passengers on the "2"from Belgium there were several rather strong recommendations for a casino

i like ms Europa 2 and ms Europa that much , that going to another 5 starred company is for me not such a great experience anymore - even on Crystal with all the changes after all inclusive

  • 2 weeks later...

I think that Hapag Lloyd has no trouble filling the Europa 2 with passengers who don't care about a casino. None of the special fares they send me occasionally are for this ship. We wanted to book a Northern Europe or Baltic trip for this summer, all sold out.

I think that one reason is that unlike a lot of other Cruise Lines, Hapag-Lloyd do not bring out a new season's brochure with artificially inflated prices which one knows will be subsequently reduced, so one tends to wait to book.

I have booked my Europa 2 cruises up to a year+ in advance, and have never seen a reduction in fares.

i am doing it as well : booking a year in advance - now trying to match some cruises on the Europa 2 with some on the ms Europa with special events for 2017;)

i must avoid tropical heath for health reasons

i had one reduction on ms Europa : from Dubai to Cyprus and one on Europa 2 where the single supp was waived .

I do not care if a ship has a casino or not (as long as the cruise line is not skimping on other services so as to make a casino). I spent too much time with math and statistics to think it is a rational thing for people to be participating in (and of course people never do anything irrational :)

Good to know that fares stay stable. Have you booked your next E2 cruise yet?

As you have done both (thread drift alert), what would you say the three major differences are between Europa and Europa 2 (other than the fact that on Europa it is not marketed as bilingual, and the casino?). Are classical music options more regular on Europa?

The Europa has formal nights- so dinner jacket for men.

The classical music highlights for 2016 are:

EUR 1606: Miami to New York. Wait List.

EUR 1613:Norwegian Cruise- Winners of the ARD Music Competition and Friends.

EUR 1619: Lisbon to Nice- The Ocean Sun Music Festival
