We are staying at the Harbor House Hotel which is a block away from the terminal. We got a room for $89.00. I'm sure we could have found something cheaper but this will save us on cab fare.

Try http://galveston.org/ we're staying at the Quality Inn & Suites, it opened June 2005, we just happened to get a room for $22.50 when they had a computer glitch due to hurricane Rita. Wherever you decide to stay remember to look up the reviews on Tripadvisor.com. Goodluck! :)

I was just checking Expedia and here's some bargains I found. I'm not sure of the exact locations:

Ramada Inn Limited $61.00

Laquinta Inn $67.00

We're booked at the Ramada on the Seawall, 54 dollars, free cruise ship parking for the week, only 2 miles from the port. They don't offer shuttle to the pier however, we'll have to take a taxi.
