Galveston or near Houston international airport?

We will be on a TA on May 6th  (Galaxy-Celebrity). Since we have to go to Houston a day earlier, can anyone give us some tips about hotels in Galveston compare to the one near Houston's inter'l airport? Any suggestion? We were planning to rent a car from Houston’s airport (IHA) and go to Galveston (about 80$) or take a sahred shuttle (70$) which takes about 2 hours (a lot of stops). Did anyone ever take the shared shuttle? If we do take the Houston' shuttle, is it easy to get a taxi in the morning from the hotel in Galveston to the pier? (don't wanna walk with the luggages icon4.gif) Celebrity charges us 53$/pp to take their transfer ...

Thank you in advance for your advices.

$80 for a rental sounds high, both Hertz and Enterprise specialize in pick ups at Bush (IAH) dropping off in Galveston. You would pick up another for the return. It usually works out cheaper then the shuttles, and gets you around the Island. I would personally stay in Galveston if possible, as there is a lot to see and do there.

Hi, we took the shuttle to IAH in October for our Galaxy trans cruise and it is a bus and it did make quite a few stops but was okay. We have also stayed in Galveston and used a taxi for going to and from the port and it's better than using the hotel transport.

Hi Vana...

I would recommend getting off of the plane in Houston and arranging transportation to a hotel in Galveston.

Many of the Galveston Hotels will offer a free shuttle to the pier.

Simple.

You will probably get a little better price staying in Houston, but consider the stay in Galveston as part of your "vacation".

Have fun.
