Shore Excursions on Eastern Caribbean

Does anyone have opinions on the following excursions? My husband and I are trying to chooes the best excursions that will show us most of the island scenery etc...

Good Morning, you can go to St. John on your own so easy. Take a cab to Red Hook and then take the ferry to St. John and then a cab to trunk bay. You will see so much on the way and then have the whole day in St. John. The tour is very nice but if you want to go to the beach you should do it on your own. There are so many taxi's on the islands willing to take you anywhere and most of the taxi drivers have lived on the islands thier whole lives and know the islands inside out. They can even take you to a places you cannot see on a tour. It is up to you to decide on what is best for you. The benefit to a ships tour is that if it is late coming back, the ship will wait.
