Just Returned Spirit 12/17/04-12/28/04

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the three ship offricers and "Yo" Adrian for attending our cruise critic's get together. It was a very informative meeting and quite enjoyable listening to all the history and plans for the Spirit.

Also thanks to Shannon and Louise in the Casino, they were just wonderful and made our time in the casino very enjoyable. Of course, winning made us very happy also. This was the biggest and best of all the shipboard casinos we have ever seen on our cruise ship.

Before we had left on our cruise we had read some very negative reviews about the dining experiences and I would like to say at this time, there was just one day we waited for 30 minutes for a table. You do not have to wait outside the restaurant, you are given a time to return and then a table is usually available within a few minutes of the estimated time. Usually we went to dinner between 7 and 7:30 and waited no more than 10 minutes for a table. Maxim's was extraordinary.

My only suggestion to improve this ship is to get some new towels in the cabins. I think a roll of paper towels would be more efficient than the towels provided - they are so thin and feel like sandpaper.

Since it was brought up at our cruise critic's meeting that the officer's read this site, I wanted to take this oppportunity to thank everyone on the Spirit for providing us with a wonderful cruising experience.

a positive post about the Spirit. I really don't understand how some people say it's the worst and some people love it. Some say the alternative dining rooms are no better than the regular ones, and some say they are to die for. Some people say the waiting isn't too bad, and some people say it's the worst. Some people say the ship is always being cleaned, and some say the ship is dirty.

Are there two Spirit's out there?

Just a thought . . . It's probably the spirit in which you cruise! As some wise person on these boards puts it, "A bad day of sailing is better than a good day at work." or...If life hands you lemons, make lemonade!

Just my 2 cents :)

I know when I was reading posts back in Aug and Sept I was so scared! The reviews were pretty bad. Then around Oct and Nov then started getting better.

The ones I read now are all pretty positive. My husband and I are both VERY picky but we had a wonderful time and can not wait to go on another NCL cruise(on the Dawn maybe??)

I think it depends on your attitude also. And everyone does have a different experience. But hey, you are on vacation, just roll with it!

It took me the second reading of your post to chuckle and agree. There are two Spirits out there. The positive Spirit you cruise with or the negative Spirit you cruise with.. Luckily for me i"m booked on the Positive Spirit.

Your post was excellent!!!!!!!!!

We were on the Dawn last February and it is a beautiful ship. (The only ship I have been on so far.) I was amazed at how many people had something to complain about. The weather was great, the food was great, the entertainment was great, everything was great....Get my point? But still, some people complained about a short wait to eat, etc. How many times do you go out to eat and have to wait. What is everyones rush anyway? You are out to have a good time. Enjoy the company you are with, whether it is sitting at a table or waiting to be seated. Life is to short to complain all the time and look only for the negative.

Enough said...

Yup Meta, we're booked on the Positive Spirit. I, too, was a bit nervous and worried when I started reading all the bad reviews a couple of months back. Now I'm beginning to realize that even through there were quite a bit of negative reviews, we also have to remember that the Spirit is new to NCL with a crew that was just beginning to get to know each other and work together with one another.

By the time our March 18th cruise comes around, everyone wil be happy, know their job functions, get along with everyone else and we'll have a great time....

Thank you Reba for letting us know how your "meet & greet" with the crew went. I already put out a post (and got my answer) on who to email to arrange it for our cruise and can't wait. My husband, brother-in-law and myself also spend quite a bit of time in the Casino, so reading the good about the Casino was also nice. Again, thank you....

Thank you so much for this post. I am so looking forward to our sailing for Spring Break. It seems that one would have to work harder at being miserable-than going with the flow and having a GREAT time. Any thoughts on excursions you guys took? Thanks again for the great attitude. It was contagious for me.

We had read everything beforehand also, and was prepared for the worse - but forget about all that. Everything was wonderful!! So true - about having a good Spirit - I will cruise anywhere, anytime and have a good time doing it!!

The ship was not dirty - you could almost trip over all the guys vacuuming the staircases or polishing the handrails.

Elaine - the casino was wonderful. The most spacious at sea. This was also the first cruise that had poker tables therefore my husband could always play some poker, when he needed a break from blackjack. As far as I was concerned the variety of slot machines were wonderful and they kept paying enough to keep me playing throughout the 9 night cruise.

We only did one shore excursion since we had already been on all the islands and knew what we were going to do. Since the hurricane in Grenada, we weren't sure what to do, so my husband booked the mountain biking trip. That was only a 2 star adventure, but he felt it should have been rated 3 stars. It was extremely hilly and exhausting and not too scenic either. On Grenada just take a scenic cab ride and tip very well to all the people. We did that in the afternoon.

All in all forget about anything derogatory you might have read about this ship and enjoy yourself!!

I have been on enough cruises to know that if someone wants to find a problem they will. I can't wait until April 1. Does the ship have a lot of games for the adults to play? Been on enough cruises, and had a lot of laughs that I would not trade for anything. It's amazing what we will do for a keychain, but oh so fun! Thanks again.

It looked like there was the typical adult entertainment on board. We did not participate, (because we were probably in the casino) but we were able to watch the games afterwards in our cabin.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5-night spirit cruise.

The ship is beautiful, and very very clean, someone would have to show me what was remotely dirty on this ship.

The food was great, service too....wonderful staff.... I had also read negative reviews, and frankly, it is mystery to me, the ship is really great.

Glad to hear it. Thanks for the positive remarks. I can't wait to set sail. Was there a lot of children on board? Do you have children that participated in the kid's program? If so, did they enjoy it?
