vow renewal on RCCL

Just saw this thread. Hadn't thought to check out the wedding section. We are celebrating our 25th annniversary August 30th but taking our cruise March 11, 2006 (Serenade of the Seas) as it worked out better for us vacation wise. I wanted to renew our vows on this cruise but DH thinks 400.00 for a renewal is silly since we are already married. He would rather buy me something, or use it for other things on the cruise. I read through this thread today and was appalled. I am so glad I found it though. PLEASE let me know how you vow renewal goes. I am very interested. Our first wedding was a large formal one and I just feel that after 3 children and 25 year of marriage, sickness and health, etc. the vows would mean so much more now that they did back then. I was thinking of trying to contact someone at one of the ports for a renewal. My dream would be to renew our vows on a beach somewhere. I have almost 8 months to work something out. We are also traveling without family so it would be very private unlike the first wedding.:) Please keep us posted..

Hi Everyone:

[

Will keep you updated on the vow renewal.

Lisa ~ Have you been on Grandeur or Voyager before?

C ya!

Good luck on the VR. Got my fingers crossed for you!! And if it isn't the "stuff that dreams are made of," everybody and his brother can put on another vow renewal for you (Disney World, Vegas, etc., etc.).

I was on Voyager last year (Sept 2004, Canada), and I'm taking my daughter to Bermuda to celebrate her 21st birthday (old enough for the casino and foo-foo drinks). When DH heard of this, I think he was disappointed, so I booked a last-minute Bermuda cruise for us on Grandeur (our first time on that class). We leave on Sunday!

Hi All:

Sheila ~ Thanks again for your wishes, it's greatly appreciated. Looks like "Emily" will be in our area a few days before we get there so it's a matter of her path and destruction. We're keeping our fingers crossed but I'll be thrilled just to be on the ship! LOL

Love2Vacation ~ Congrats on your future anniversary. 25 years is a wonderful accomplishment. On the Voyager ship they charge $500. The better "class" of ships the more they charge which I think is insane. If DH is adamant about not doing the vow renewal you can do something private. Idea... on a formal night during sunset, go out on the deck somewhere peaceful and recite your own vows (you can write one for DH, vice versa). Bring a glass of champagne to toast your vow renewal. I don't know how much renewals are at the ports since I never checked into it. Whatever you decide to do it will be something to remember and enjoy. Good luck with your research and hope your day will turn out beautiful.

Lisa ~ Have a great time on Grandeur. If you go to the Champagne Lounge tell Patsy/Verina that Trish/Barry from NJ says Hi. We saw Patsy last year on Grandeur at the end of September and we met Patsy several years before that on Grandeur. Funny thing is that she remembered us. We spent a lot of time there in the evenings and they were so good to us. Patsy/Verina always wondered what I was wearing each night for dinner. They are great people. Bermuda is gorgeous so enjoy yourselves!

I picked up my wedding gown today and I'm so excited. For those that don't know this.. the gown that I wore ten years ago for my wedding is being worn again for the vow renewal. After ten years it still fits. Having the memory of my wedding and my dad walking me down the aisle/dancing with me means so much to me. I lost my dad seven months ago so there's a lot of sentimental value to this. I'm very excited.

Thanks again for your wishes and I'll let you know how everything went when I get back and settled.

Trish/letsparty- Sounds like you have everything set for you special day. Good for you that your dress still fits. I don't think mine does but it is so 80's. My youngest wants to have it remade with a new top part someday when she marries. It is an empire gown and she wants to drop it to waist and do a strapless bodice. I had this high neck and long sleeves, what where we thinking back then in August for peets sake with no air-conditioning!!

Please let me know how everything goes. I have checked into the site that Mandygirl mentioned (300.00) and they actually have a pastor do the vow renewal which would be nice since I just bought my DH a new wedding ring for an early anniversary present. We had had his wedding band enlarged twice in the past 25yrs and it has had it, so had to get a new one. He really didn't like the idea of giving up the ring I put on his finger the day we married so it would be nice to have a real pastor to bless the rings again.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you guys and hope the hurricanes stay away for your trip. Good luck.

Hey Everyone:

Just came back from VOS today and to make this short for now.. the vow renewal was PERFECT. We got everything we asked for and had a beautiful day. We even made the cruise video (for about five seconds). The Captain even visited us which was an honor. RR is horrible but Shannon (Social Host) made our day very special and we will treasure it forever. Pictures came out beautiful.

We had people clapping for us during the day and when we entered the dining room we decided to walk down the main stairs. The entire dining room (all three floors) applauded for us. It was an amazing experience.

Had dinner at Portofino's and it was fantastic. We were treated like royalty and the food was fantastic.

Overall, our dream of ten years came true and it was like a fairytale.

Time to unpack .. be back tomorrow.

C ya!

Best of luck with your 20th vow renewal and I hope your day will be as special as mine was. Thank you very much for the congratulations... it's greatly appreciated.

When you get on board and checked into your cabin, you should have a note from the social host indicating a time/place to meet him/her. If a letter is not there, go to Guest Services on the ship and indicate that you need to meet with the social host for a vow renewal. This is how RCI did it so Carnival may do it differently.

If you are dealing with Royal Romance, indicate the date/time you want it. If you been on the ship before indicate a place for the reception. The more you have listed with Royal Romance the better. Shannon had all of our information which helped. Granted RR can't guarantee anything since an itinerary can change but providing the information can't hurt either.

I wish you all the best with your planning and congratulations to you as well!

Hi Sheila:

I think the service is all based on what cruise line you go on and who the social host is. Shannon was wonderful and everything went smoothly so I can't complain. Royal Romance is another story and I even informed Shannon how unhappy I was with their services.

This renewal was $500 so it's wasn't cheap but to us it was worth it since we didn't have a flaw and been dreaming of this for ten years.

I'll be more than happy to email you a picture. Barry is not comfortable having our picture on the web so I'm granted his wishes.

If you are still interested in a picture please send me an email to onyx66@hotmail.com.

Take care and best of luck with what you decide to do.

  • 1 month later...

Did you ever get a response back from Royal Romance? If so how long did it take?

Re St. Thomas - my back up plan is with www.usviweddings.com

The wedding planner is Stacy. I e-mailed her and had an answer the next day. The ceremony would take place on St. Johns with a real pastor.

Please let me know how your ceremony details are coming.

We are planning ours for Serenade of the Seas March 11th. Lack of appropriate place on the ship for the ceremony is a concern for me also.

I am helping a friend set up a VR on Freedom next July. We are sailing with them. 500.00 seems like a lot, especially for what you get. This thread has been really helpful- I think I may start by looking for wedding services in Miami for the day before we sail :)

I talked with my TA about our vow renewal and she said after talking to RC (Not RR although, she did talk to them) they suggested we might have more input on our day if we did something at one of the ports. I ended up going with St. John USVI. There are several planners there, most are around 300.00-400.00 but at least you get to choose your site and day! This was really more important to me than saving 50.00 or 100.00. Besides some of the "stuff" included in the RR enewal package was not that important to us. We are doing our renewal at Hawksnet Bay/Beach on St. John and we will have an ordained minister.

Good luck to your friend, and you are so nice to be helping. As for Miami, I am sure if you google- Miami weddings- you will find something. Have fun with it. This vow renewal has really been more fun to plan than my original wedding!:)

Which planner are you using on St John? We are looking into a vow renewal also. My husband is a former crewmember, and when we got married back in April, we had a civil ceremony to get his paperwork moving. Now we want to plan the real thing, and I would love to do it on our anniversary-April 8. I don't know if we will cruise or fly there. We want it on our anniversary, which is a Saturday, and we also would like a minister to perform this ceremony. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

We are using Ceremonies St. John, the website is www.usviwedding.com .

Stacy returns emails very quickly and she has been so helpful. We are having our renewal on Hawksnest Beach, but when you go to the website and click on ceremony locations you will see there are many choices. I also loved that this company uses a "real" minister, not the internet ordained people. Not that is that big of deal since we are already married but I just like having a man of God there. Maybe it sounds weird, but I guess that is just me.

I am including a thread from MandyGirl as I read her thread and that is were I found USVI Weddings. She has pictures, price lists etc.

LeeLee good luck with your planning. I think you will find Stacy very helpful.

Let me know how everything goes.
