africanviolet Posted October 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2009 We will be visiting Nice & Cannes. We have an option to take a tour to Monte Carlo. Is it worth it or is Cannes and Nice enough to fill your day? Thanks.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2009 I'd stick with Nice if I were you. A lovely city--the old town is very picturesque and interesting.
alexandra cruiser Posted October 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 15, 2009  If you have just one day, spend it enjoying Nice. Monte Carlo is great, but trip is a few hrs. and it can make you feel rushed. Our offered trip was for dinner and tour, passed on it and stayed an extra couple days on our own in Nice after ship docked.Nice is great, take the hop on hop off tour bus. Right on main ocean street, ask for directions or check Nice tourism internet site ,takes you to all the great locations.Explore the shops and cafes in OLd Town.Great Museums,Chagall and Matisse,if you like those things. You ll love it.......Monte Carlo is basically a casino, yacht club, small but great city. How can you not love any of the lovely coast ,right???:)
WeBeGone Posted October 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 15, 2009 We took a day trip with Slyvia - Cannes, Nice, Monte Carol, and Eze. A great day. She helped us get into the casino where we managed to buy a light bulb in about 15 minutes. It was wonderful. Eze was magnificant. I was glad we didn't stay in Cannes the whole day. CintiPam Posted October 15, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2009 I agree with alexandra cruiser that there is plenty to do/see in Nice alone for a day (let alone Cannes in addition, where I never have been). Monte Carlo is not my cup of tea.

You bought a light bulb at the Casino in Monte Carlo? ok, you're going to have to explain that one ;) OP, Nice has lots to see, highly recommend the Chagall Museum, but we do have a soft spot for St. Paul and Eze. alexandra cruiser Posted October 16, 2009 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2009 Hop on bus is just for Nice. You can take train to Cannes, not sure about Eze.Also, don t be confused by a Tourist Trolley tram, this is a regular open top tour bus. Forgot to mention, there is a lovely yacht area you can wander, and dream,in.If you want to swim in ocean, bring beach shoes, its very rocky.:D:D
Rare Hlitner Posted October 16, 2009 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2009 Can you get to Cannes & Eze when taking the hop on/off tour in Nice? Cannes is about an hour from Nice (by train) and Eze is 20 min or so by bus and they are in the opposite directions from Nice. As has been posted, any HoHo bus in Nice would just keep you in Nice. boneshaker Posted October 19, 2009 #10 Share Posted October 19, 2009 Could have done without Monaco and Monte Carlo and spent more time in Nice, etc.

We love to gamble and to be at the casino was awesome!
LilMissK Posted October 19, 2009 #12 Share Posted October 19, 2009 I didn't like Nice. Was quite glad to be leaving it to go back on the bus to Monaco... Cannes didnt look particularly nice either... must be just me, lol
Rare Got2Cruise Posted October 19, 2009 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2009 If you are interested in Grace Kelly and the Grimaldi family, like we were, then Monaco is definitely worth the trip. We stayed near the town, we never ventured down to Monte Carlo. I have heard from various posters that there are some great restaurants in Monte Carlo though. We also went to Nice and went to the beach and flower market there. I thought it was a nice way to split up the day. I wish we went to Eze also, but there just isn't enough time in a day.:)
tahoemw Posted October 20, 2009 #14 Share Posted October 20, 2009 it is just a scenic overlook that you could do with Monaco and Monte Carlo; do the Cannes and Nice; and Eze and St. Paul. Very many boutique shops in St. Paul. Eze is a medieval village with a wonderful panoramic view. Don't go to the perfume tour in Eze, just go to the shop or there is another shop at the base of the village and there is another perfume shop across the street in Eze village. Bring the Eze map and get a discount at one of the perfume shops

When I hear somebody say they disliked Nice it makes me curious as to where they went in Nice. There are certainly some parts of the town which leave something to be desired, but most find the old town area to be interesting. Nice is also a great place to find excellent regional food. Personally, we have no love of Monte Carlo so I guess its one of those "different strokes" situations. Hank
