Back from Enchantment - May 10-14

Recommended Posts

We had a great time. Dh and I took our two boys 13 & 17. They had a super time, too. There were virtually NO other kids on board their ages, so they pretty much hung with us the whole time, but they still had a great time anyway. We flew in the day before and stayed at the Marina Marriott. When we checked in, we requested a room with a view, and got on the 10th floor overlooking the port. We could see the Enchantment when we got up the next morning. Thank you Priceline! That particular room was going for over $200/night! The next morning, we took a free shuttle to the port around 11am, and was on board by 11:30. Our room wasn't going to be ready until 1pm, so we dropped off our carry ons and checked out the ship before it got crowded. The Windjammer was open, so we grabbed a sandwich and sat by the pool until our room was ready.

The staff on the ship were super!! Our waiter was Devon from Jamaica, and he and his assistant, Marjan from Macedonia, were just great! Our room attendant was Eula, and she was right on the money keeping our ice bucket filled, turndown with chocolates and towel animals every night, and straigtening our room twice a day. We had room 8054-(a JS)
Matt Baker lived up to his reputation of being a charismatic host! He was an absolute hoot..

The ship itself was lovely. This is the only one we have been on (so far ) so I can't compare it to another, but I felt it was showing its age just a little, but still beautiful nonetheless.

Key West was the quaint little tourist trap that it has always been. I am from south Fl. so that was no big thrill for me. In Cozumel, we had a surprise Royal Dolphin Swim planned for the boys. That was definitely the highlight of the trip for them! They absolutely loved it. In Belize, we went cave tubing. It was pretty fun, but the water in the river was VERY COLD.

Over all, the food was good, the staff was GREAT,the nightly shows were entertaining, and a great time was had by all! I am going to look into booking another cruise for about this same time next year on one of the larger, newer ships. I'll be glad to try and answer any questions if anyone has one...

Sonia

Thanks for the report, we are going in January and looking forward to it. By showing it's age what do you mean. Looking old and dingy or just a little older than the new sparkle of the bigger ships?

How was the JS for the 4 of you? We have a JS on the Brilliance in December for 4 also, and am hoping we won't be too crowded. Did your teens share the sofa bed, and was there enough storage for everything?

Thanks for the review. We are going on Enchantment in August and we are also staying in a Junior Suite on deck 8. We have two adjoining JS for the four of us.

I'd appreciate it if you can just answer a few questions.

Was the balcony a nice size?
Did you hear noise from pool area or windjammer from the deck above?

I heard there was a really good Beatles tribute show that we were all looking forward to seeing. Are they still running that show? I thought I had heard that it was nearing its end on Enchantment but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

Glad you had a good time and thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the review. We are heading out in July and got a ocean view on deck 4. I think we'll do the dolphion swim too - DH isn't thrilled about it - but we're doing it!

Until the Caribbean!!!

TheWog- By showing its age, I don't mean that was stained or dingy, to us it just had the feel of an older, but still nice hotel, if you've ever stayed in one of those.

lori a- we did fine in a JS. It was about the size of a regular hotel room. Our boys did sleep on the sleeper sofa. The maid pulled it out and made it for them every night while we were at dinner. We had the late seating. I hung all of our " good clothes" in the closet, and put all of our "play clothes" in the various drawers. We stored all of our luggage under the bed. The bathroom had 2 medicine type mirrored cabinets and we put all of our toiletries in those. One thing I forgot to mention before, I am definitely glad I took our small alarm clock, because there are no clocks in the rooms, and also a power strip with multiple plugs! There was only 1 outlet in the whole cabin, so if you want to keep your curling/flat iron, and your clock plugged in while you dry your hair, you'll need a power strip!

Garycruz- The balcony was a decent size, about 5x10 I'd guess. There were 2 chairs, a lounger, and a small table on it. We were under the Solarium pool, and YES, we did here people dragging chairs around! Beatlemaniacs is still running. It was a very cool show!

hth,
Sonia

smoothdancer- If you mean the furniture in the rooms, maybe a little.Nothing had holes or worn spots in it,it was more like the carpet and bedspread colors were a little outdated. The furniture and everything in the dining room was very nice. The seats in the Orpheum where all the shows are held were a little worn. Nothing to take away from the cruise at all though. Overall, it was a very beautiful ship. The Centrum with the glass elevators was gorgeous.
