Do you have any secrets or recommendations on how to lose weight on WW as quickly as possible yet safely? I'm getting married in June and we are taking our first honeymoon cruise I'd like to be down about 50lbs or so actually more but I don't see that happening. What is your average loss and any tips for me?

Hi JYeagersgrl,

I work for WW and 50 lbs by June is asking for too much. The average weight loss is up to 1 - 2 lbs. per week. In the first 3 weeks you lose more but that is ususally water weight. Whether you follow the flex plan or core plan doesn't matter. What matters is that you follow the plan as written. Then when you get on the cruise take note of the Healthy Spa Menu and use the gym. You always walk alot on a cruise. Use the steps, not the elevators. Good luck and if I can answer any questions let me know.

Margienj... Since you work for WW can you tell me from experience which works better for people.. The Flex Plan or the Core Plan??? I just joined WW last Thursday and I've done WW before... They both sound good but I think I have decided on the Flex plan.. but wonder if you know which one seems to get best results??

Waterbound,

I personally like the flex plan better because I like too many foods I would have to count out of my 35 allowance points anyway. The leader I work with is sold on the core plan. She also has no children at home whereas I have two children and a fussy husband. Serving brown rice or wheat pasta or couscous for that matter won't go over too well. Also, I am not in touch with my "comfort zone". But since both plans have been introduced we have seen people do equally well on both. It really is a matter of choice. Try one for one week and then the other and see how you like them. Then choose. Good luck:D

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!!

I do ww watchers too and really follow an old plan. 123, but it works for me. It all shakes out to the same thing.

As for a goal weight loss, it is a good idea to have in you mind how much you'd like to lose but you do have to be careful of the time. Really, by saying that your goal is to lose 50# by mm/dd/yy, you are setting a goal that you really have no control over. A better goal is "I will stay on program for a full 7 days". or "I will do 30 minutes of cario excersize at least 4 times this week". You control those goals and you can achieve them. If you follow your program, the weight will come off but, unfortunately, your body, not you decides how fast. In fact, the last 2 weeks of December, I stayed completely on program, with excersize and gained 3 pounds but I still rewarded myself for staying on program (no, not with food) then last week lost 4 pounds. Obviously, I didn't lose 4 pounds in one week, it was the three weeks of staying on program.

My advice is, avoid alot of frustration and just focus on following your plan between now and your honeymoon. You'll lose weight healthfully, feel much better than you do now and will avoid frustration.

Losing 50 pounds by June? I say you can do it since you have 6 months time. I lost 40 pounds in 4 months nearly 3 years ago and have kept it off! I lost the weight from Apr 2002 through July 2002! Good luck!

Just one comment about Weight Watchers. I have been slightly over weight since I was 12. I lost about 25 lbs two and half years ago on WW. Even though I have gained back 10, they've come off again. It's the only diet I've been able to stay on...lots of choices and healthy. I've tried many others over the years. I find that both Atkins and South Beach end up making me ill after one to two weeks...I honestly don't find them to be very healthy, nor do I think they help prepare you for good eating habits when you've lost your weight. Congratulations on your wedding and on your choice of weight loss plans. Even if you don't lose the full 50, you can certainly lose a good portion of it and will feel great the whole time.

Here's my suggestion. Keep very good track in your journal of the foods you've eaten for a week. At the end of each journal, write down the total loss for that week. If you have some weeks that you lost more weight on, repeat that week again using the same exact foods. Don't include your first few weeks of WW because alot of that is water weight. Hope that helps!

Hi - I am a lifetime member of WW - since approx 1976. I had to go back in Jan of 2002 for a "tune-up" and lost 32 pounds from the end of Jan to the first of May in that year - subsequently lost another 15 - and have maintained that - I LOVE the Flex plan - it fits into my lifestyle beautifully - we cruise a lot and I have never gained more than 1 lb on a cruise of any duration - lots of exercise helps on a cruise - walk everywhere you can - Remember WW is really NOT a diet - but a lifestyle change - you have to make the changes for good - not go on and off of them - you will be successful if you do! - Best wishes - you can do it!!!:):):)
