S. Friars Beach, excellent snorkeling.

We took the taxi, $16 each way for family of four to S. Friars Beach. INCREDIBLE snorkeling! Reef is 50' and 200' from shore, no rip currents, just a gentle current from south to north that will guide you the length of the mile long reef. Chairs $5 each, umbrella $5. We truly enjoyed it.

Hi! A few questions.

Would a taxi for 2 people also be $16 each way?

Was the sand nice (not rocky or pebbly)?

How was the water near shore? Clear and calm?

Where did you rent the stuff?

Were they chairs or chaises?

Thank you so much!

Taxi ride would be around 15 minutes or so from the port. Restrooms are port-a-potty type (but not too bad!). Chaise lounges and umbrellas for rent from the bar (Shipwreck) - nice beach bar with good and reasonably priced food. One of my favourite places!

This beach was beautiful. The shore is very rocky though. Wear water shoes if you have them. If you walk down to the far right there is a nice area where you can go right into the water without sidestepping the rocks. The views from down there are amazing. Ask your cab driver to take you to the photo spot where you can see the views from the Atlantic side. That looks like a great beach too if you like waves. Next time...........

Well, if you walk all the way down towards the right you can park yourselves at the last restaurant that rents chairs and umbrellas. Then you wouldn't have far to walk at all to go in the water without the annoying rocks. You can also go in all the way down to the left but the area isn't as large or nice. There is a small spot in the middle (without rocks) that is near the float and slide. Ziggy's bar is right there. They have good prices but very slow service. We ate at the Monkey Bar. Expensive but good. As for the cabs make sure you get one of the government cabs. They are regulated and charge by destination. It was 2.50 pp each way. They will make you wait until they fill up the van before leaving. Hope this helps.

This is getting confusing:confused: Does the original post refer correctly to South Friars with the excellent snorkeling?

If so do they have snorkel gear for rent as well as the beach chairs?

And can someone confirm the cab fare?

The original post refers to South Friars Beach. It is over Sir Timothy Hill and then to the right. There will be a siggn to Shipwreck Bar.

Thanks for clarifying. Do you know if there is a vendor renting snorkel gear on S. Friars?
