Back from 5/15 Splendour

Recommended Posts

Just back from a great cruise on the Splendour to the Med! We had fantastic weather, smooth seas and a wonderful time touring the area. The Splendour staff was friendly, the food was good and overall everything was great. After I tackle the laundry, mail, etc. I hope to do a full review but in the meantime I'll be happy to answer any questions. Ciao! Fanc6,
Thanks for the quick response on Splender of the Sea. Questions, Did you feel the pinch because of the high euro? Any days of rain? Is this your first Royal Caribbean Cruise? We fly out this coming Tuseday and will arrive in Barcelona on Thursday. I'll let the wife know so far everythings is go.(Goos weather, good food, friendly people) I plan on posting our review once we return State side sometime around June 10. Sound like you had a nice cruise. Tim and Cathy

Welcome home to you too, FANC6! I just saw another one of your shipmates' post. I'm sure you guys are beat, but we really appreciate hearing from you!

What was your cabin catagory? Were you able to take wine on board? Could you purchase liquor on board and take it to your room for a charge? Please tell me you had lobster at least once!? Where'd you stay in Barcelona? Was a easy to get a cab at the port in Barcelona to your hotel or did you use transfers?

Think that's it for now!

Nanette

When you left the ship in Barcelona, did you notice if there was much of a line for the new passengers to embark? What time did you get off and was it smooth?

I'm concerned because we will have my parents with us who can't really stand for too long(especially in the end of August with the heat!).

Looking forward to hearing more.

FANC6, I am anxiously waiting.

Please give details about the ports and if anyone took the trains in Villefrance, Livorno and Rome.

Thanks.

I'll try to answer your questions and hope to have my review done soon.
vivian02-I felt prices were high because of the Euro. We still bought things but not as much as I had hoped. For example, the shoes in Italy were around 100 Euros or more. I had sailed on the Enchantment before and the Splendour is very similar. A nice size ship and easy to get around. We had no rain the whole week-sunny skies & temps around 80 -perfect!
4cruisers - we had a category D cabin(7590)- balcony near the aft. I felt the vibration in our cabin especially when the ship was coming in or out of port. I did get used to it by the end of the week. I brought wine onboard in 3 ports and it was taken from me in the first port only(Marseilles). At the other ports they let me keep it even though I told them it was wine?!? I didn't buy any onboard to bring back to the cabin. We had a lobster tail and shrimp on the menu one night in the dining room. We stayed at the Gran Havana Hotel in Barcelona. It was a nice place and a good location although I think the staff could have been friendlier. We took the ship transfers but there were a lot of cabs available in Barcelona but I'm not sure how many of the drivers speak English. I didn't notice a line when we got off but when we got on the ship there was a short line and we only waited about 10-15 minutes. We used the ship transfer and were at the pier before 11:00.

I understand your impatience and I'll try to finish my review today with the details about the port tours.

You are so sweet to take the time to placate us!!! I am as excited as a little kid to hear about this trip!! I think it is partly because I am so hoping I made a good choice of cruises to take my folks on for their first cruise experience!

How funny that they chose France to take your wine away!!! So did they hold it for you until you got back to Barcelona? Oh boy, here we go again with those darned mixed policies!!! It'd be terrible to buy a really special bottle and have THAT be the time they decide not to let us carry it on!!!

Oh well, actually not the end of the world....we'd get over it, of course!

It'll be fun to hear what you chose to do in each of the ports! And more info on food will be great too!

Thanks again!
Nanette

Hi Jean!

I hope you and your daughter had a great time in Barcelona. I loved that city! Too bad we had only couple of hours there. Anyway, thank you again for inviting us to your tour in Rome. We had a wonderful time and couldn't have a better excursion.
