Help With Western Caribbean Cruise

I'm sooooo confused! Looking at a western Caribbean cruise for November 2010 and can't make up our mind. Carnival has 3 ships - Legend, Glory, and Valor all doing the same itinerary. We are a group of 12 friends/couples all in our mid 50's to mid 60's and need some input on each of these ships. Are they comparable to each other? Does one offer something not found on the others? etc, etc,etc ! Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

All three are terrific ships. Glory and Valor are sister ships, Conquest class (110,000 tons/3000 passengers) sister ships. The Legend is a Spirit class ship (88,000 tons/2100 passengers).

Our personal preference is for the slightly smaller Spirit class ships. With a third fewer passengers the ships just feel far less crowded and just more comfortable all around. I will give the Conquest class ships credit that the nightlife venues are more conveniently located and as a result those ships are much livelier into the wee hours but this is not a major consideration for us. We are more the early riser, busy day and in bed by midnight types.

I can't speak for the others, but I just got back from the western itenerary on the Valor on Jan. 24. We also were a group with alot of us being in your age group. I loved the ship and believe that you would to. It is my fourth Carnival cruise and I really loved that the ship is done in the American theme. (There are a few areas that are questionable as to how they relate to Americana). It is a spotlessly clean ship and the crew was great! From the room stewards to the wait staff to entertainment, they were wonderful. The lead singers were the best we have ever seen on any of our four cruises. The cruise director (big Tex) was great. Not to over the top but hip enough to appeal to the young and mature enough to apeal to the older also. I loved, loved, loved the Valor and it's itenerary! Read my review. It is a work in progress but I will try to complete it by the end of the week. You will not go wrong on this ship. Not to many kids, but a few. Other passengers were more in our age range than younger. It was all just perfect.

Can really only offer an opinion, which is what CC is all about. You can see how many Carnival ships we've been on, but there is just something we loved about The Legend. One hardly ever sees any negative comments about this ship. I think you'd enjoy any of the three ships, but we throw our vote in for The Legend!

All 3 are great. Glory will be in drydock for the next 2 weeks so should be just like new & will have the giant tv screen installed as Valor already has. The spirit class ships are smaller &I don't believe Legend has the screen.

The only one of those 3 that I have sailed on is the Glory. Glory is a nice ship, very COLORFUL interior, as color is its decor theme. I have not been on the Legend, but I have done an 8 day on her sister ship, Miracle. I don't know if this will be a "selling factor" for you, but it might be.... You will have less walking to do on the Legend than on the other two. The Legend will have a more "user friendly" layout than the Glory or Valor.

However, the Conquest (another sister ship to the Glory and Valor) is our all time favorite ship, and we are in our upper 50's. So I don't know if that helps or not! LOL! :)

We love the Legend, so much so that we will be sailing her for a 3rd time in 4 years in Nov. (and we aren't from Tampa!). Great layout, the decor is classy and not too "over-the-top" as some of the ships are. Doesn't ever feel really crowded, the service is great, and it's not so overly huge that you get tired getting from point A to B. My favorite thing about the spirit class is that the aft Lido (where the adult pool and bar is) is open to the sea, not surrounded by a wall of windows as most of the others are. Gives a totally different atomosphere. I will agree with a previous poster that spirit class is not well-known for partying into the wee hours (but of course that may also change dependent upon the group of passengers). We're also in our 50's and this one works really well for us.

The ports are great!!!:D

I've been on Glory twice, Valor once, and are booked for the Legend in May '10. Loved both the Glory and the Valor, and I'm sure I will love the Legend. I've also sailed the Inspiration out of Tampa. I would say that Tampa has the edge as far as embarkation/debarkation goes. Miami is fine, but very crowded, a bit more confusing, and more hectic. Tampa is smooth sailing (no pun intended) from the time you get there until you get on the ship. Personally, I prefer to leave out of Tampa just for that reason.

But, if the price is significantly more for the same itinerary, I would opt for the cheaper one regardless of embarkation point.

Thanks everyone, lots of great info/advice. It looks like we can't go wrong with either of the 3 choices. Right from the start I had my eye on the Legend because of the itinerary and the price can't be beat. But then I discovered the Valor and the Glory and the confusion set in. Guess we are going to have to take in to consideration all the other options before deciding, i.e, best airfare, cheapest pre / post cruise hotel, as well as parking expenses for our Florida friends ..... Planning vacations should be a full time job!

We liked the Valor (see my link if your interested in a blog, review). Have also been on the Pride (similar to Legend).

I thought the Valor was really laid out well and didn't seem more crowded than the Pride.

I've been looking at the Conquest out of Texas since we liked the Valor.

Awesome! Trying to save some money this year by not flying somewhere. We have made the drive in five hours.

That's about how far it is to Galveston for us, too....maybe closer to 6 hours. We are also glad to have the option of sailing out of New Orleans on a bigger ship, the Triumph now. I do not like the smaller Fantasy class ships but expect to like the Triumph. However, the Conquest will always be our "home away from home". LOVE that ship and its crew!!! :)

As I said previously, my eye has been on the Legend from day one and I am hearing nothing but good reviews about her and Tampa is an easy direct flight for as as opposed to Miami. However we do have some issues that need exploring. Would anyone out there have menus for either of these ships? Would love to take a peek as we have some people with food allergies and some plain janes or in this case joes (DH) who thinks wild and crazy is sampling the cold soups! I go for the more exotic that I don't get every day so I never have any food issues. I also know that on our last Carnival cruise the dinning room staff went out of their way to accomodate us so I'm not overly worried, but I would enjoy a sneek peak if possible.

As Jan posted, I also believe that the ships all have the same basic menus. And I also know they will go to great lengths to serve what you like, within reason;) Here is a link to a bunch of Legend info on Cruiseclues, including some menus. Just not sure how recent the menus are. I know that they always feature some more basic items (like the Flat Iron Steak) every nite for those who are not adventurous. And if you're not in the mood for the fancy dining room food, you can always opt for the buffet, the deli, the grill at the pool, or pizza. There's something for everyone!:D
