Other ruins to see from Calica?

I am planning a cruise and might have to change dates and itineraries (and boat!). We were going to Progresso but might change to Calica. My daughter wants to see ruins. Are the closest ones Tulum with Carnival or are there ones we can explore that don't have a 2 hours round trip on a bus. Thanks!

From Calica (Playa del Carmen) the closest substantial ruins are at Tulum. Other ruins are much further away, and are best visited from other Caribbean ports: Progreso, Costa Maya (Majahual), Belize City, and Santo Tomas de Castilla.

As said above Tulum is the easiest I recall about 40 min from Calica. It is worth to go just to see the beach. Have lunch and snorkel with the turtles at Akumal after. Coba is doable too, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. You can still climb the pyramid and many other structures. It would be a full day trip with time for lunch.

Either ruins I would go as early as possible to beat the crowds.
