U.S. Passport outdated address a big deal?

Used it on my last cruise to Caribbean and I just realized my passport address was outdated thus incorrect. I had no problems, but in July it's a cruise out of England so the passport is more critical

I tried an internet search and the only direct hit was a Yahoo U.K question. The answer was "You do not have to report the address change. Imagine if they had to issue another passport for every address change in ten years, they would never find time to issue new passports" and then added there is an area in the passport to write an address update.

But that was the U.K. (although the logic made sense; and what if you have to move unexpectedly just before planned travel...etc..)

I know HOW to get a new passport with a correct address; one can do it online but I would rather not have to send 60 bucks AND my passport AND two passport friendly photos...ya da ya da ya da....(there is time..leaving late June)..but just don't want to go through the hassle if it isn't necessary.

Thoughts C.C.'ers??

Apparently British Passports do (thus the Yahoo U.K. answer); ok...one less thing to worry about.

I'm soooo confused. Mitch, you have a US passport, right? Did you just happen to completely forget what it looks like because you haven't looked at it in the last year? :)

The expiration date is the big deal. No address on US passports.

You have to have an expiration date that doesn't fall within the traveling in the period of the last six months of expiration date. Not sure if I am saying this right...it is early yet.....if you are traveling say June 1st and your passport expires August 30 this could be a problem. Cruiselines want the guest to have renewed that passport.

...When making mental notes for the upcoming trip I had a senior moment and thought passports had an address (as apparently some other nations passports do).

A simple perusal of my passport (I know it's valid, so I haven't really LOOKED thru it since I first received it 3 years ago) would have saved some time.

Never mind...:) lol

....though passport expiration is not an issue to me; that is still good to know.

Hey no problem. I'm glad we're all straightened out now, lol. Enjoy!

PS, if you live in Nebraska, there IS a chance your address is on your passport...you better go check!

Okay...I'm just sayin'. But don't come crying to ME when your address is on your Nebraska passport and you're stuck at the port wondering what's going on!

Passports are for proof of citizenship, the country where you were born.

Because people move, addresses have no bearing on its being valid or out dated. As long as your passport is not expired to will expire in 6 months of your travel you are fine.

Hello, this is slightly off-topic , but, since the senior moment has passed, I would like to offer an observation. I have a US passport that is many years expired. I will renew it eventually, but, in the meanwhile, when I cruise, I have my certified birth certificate from MA and my driver's license from VA, where I moved to 10 years ago. I bring my expired PP too, but, keep it in my "important papers" envelope. Whenever I hand my BC and DL to the check-in person, they look at it like I am trying to pull a fast one. They usually take them to another agent and they whisper and point at me. When they come back, I ask them if there is a problem and they say, these are from 2 different states. SERIOUSLY!!?? I am the only person who has ever cruised who was born in one state and now (46 years later) lives in another state??? This cannot possibly be true yet every agent makes a huge deal out of it. Has anyone else had this same situation???.....Maureen

That is really ridiculous. My friend and I just did an RCCL cruise and she had a BC from NY and a DL from NM. NO ONE said a word to her. You just keep getting stuck with dingbats!! :)

...the reason I ask is when I had the senior moment as the OP of this thread; when I googled I did see alot of India related change of address passport questions..or maybe those were visas??

I'm still going with the no address theory. Esp. since I just put "picture of an indian passport" into Yahoo and it looked a lot like ours. lol

...some don't think Nebraska is a real state; and many couldn't find it on an untitled U.S. map.....hmmm...I better check...

On page 7 of my Iowa passport there is a place for "Personal Data and Emergency Contact Information". It says to pencil in the info and please keep them up to date. Of course I wrote in ink and have my old address scratched out with my new address.
