2011 is looking to be a strong year for Europe deployment as Princess Cruises became the latest major operator to outline a hefty season -- its most extensive ever.

Princess said it will send seven ships, the most it has ever positioned on the Continent, to sail 42 itineraries including seven new routes, with calls at more than 135 ports.

More than half the ports provide access to notable attractions designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These range from Italy’s Amalfi Coast and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg to the birthplace of Apollo on the island of Delos (accessible from Mykonos) and the 16th-century Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul.

In addition, Princess added more overnights in ports such as Venice, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, Alexandria, Dublin and Edinburgh. And the line will make maiden calls at five ports, from Aarhus, Denmark, to Antwerp, Belgium.

Among the seven new itineraries are expanded 11-day Scandinavia and Russia cruises calling at Oslo, Warnemünde (for Berlin), Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn and Aarhus, with a two-day stay in St. Petersburg. New seven-day ‘Interlude’ voyages can be combined for longer sailings and visit boutique Mediterranean ports.

Ruby Princess returns with the line’s signature 12-day ‘Grand Mediterranean’ itinerary and Greek Isles routes. Star Princess also cruises the Mediterranean, taking over the 12-day Egypt, Greek Isles and Mediterranean itineraries.

Emerald Princess returns to Europe with the new 11-day Scandinavia and Russia program. Crown Princess sails to the British Isles on two 12-day itinerary options, and to Norway and Iceland in programs of seven to 12 days.

Grand Princess offers three new itineraries featuring a selection of Mediterranean and Northern Europe voyages that range from seven to 17 days.

The smaller Ocean Princess operates the new seven-day Greek Isles and Mediterranean ‘Interlude’ itineraries that can be combined into 14-day or longer voyages, with destinations like Cephalonia in Greece and Koper, Slovenia.

Sister ship Pacific Princess sails to the Holy Land and Black Sea, visits classic destinations such as Egypt, Israel, Ukraine, Greece and Turkey.

In the Mediterranean and Greek Isles alone, the line will operate 21 different itineraries, while 14 different routes are available in Northern Europe. The line also offers three European cruise-tours that combine with certain sailings to offer a fully escorted land tour to Rome and Florence, Ireland’s wild west and the Ring of Kerry, or Budapest, Vienna, Prague and Berlin
