What did you like best about the Elation?

What did you like best about the Elation? Whether it's a certain area of the ship, service, crew member, the layout of the ship in general, etc...please inform here.

Also, how many swimming pools are on the Elation? Is there a topless deck and if so, where is it located? I know there was one on the Celebration but a friend of mine who sailed the Elation this month said she didn't see it, but this was her first cruise and she was too busy going ga-ga over everything else.

I loved the elation (1/05). I really don't think there was anything I didn't like about it. There are 2 pools and 6 hot tubs. There is a topless deck around the funnel. The entrance is not real well marked. Things we loved.

1. Hot tubs

2. Pizza

3. Service

4. Larger rooms

5. Relaxed atmosphere

6. Dining room food

7. There were always enough deck chairs

8. Did I mention...everything

The best thing about the Elation are the passengers. Texans are a hoot to travel with. They sure love to have fun. There are a lot of Texans sailing on her since she leaves from Galveston. I found this cruise to be much more fun than any cruise I have taken out of Miami.

Yes, there is a topless deck. It is located two levels up from the main pool. If you are at the aft pool, just walk toward to main pool. There will be a set of stairs to get to the topless deck. It is on the right-hand side when facing the front of the ship (sorry, I forget the mariner lingo for ship terms). There are two regular pools and a kiddie pool.

1. We thought the ship was just beautiful---especially the atrium area. (staterooms were an ugly orange so I'm excluding the rooms from the "beautiful" comments!)

2. Food in the dining rooms was really great quality as well as the pizza and the burgers out by the pool. Buffet was fair, but every dinner in the dining room each night was a wonderful experience.

3. Very smoooooooth sailing. No problems with movement at all!

BTW: the staff were just fine on the Elation, but the staff on the Celebration were tops! Friendliest we've had in 3 cruises.

We loved everything about the Elation,(4/04) but especially the band, the Dirt Poets. Because of the band, we booked another cruise on the Elation for 6/05 and found out just last week that the band is now on the Sensation.

:( Awwwww. We really enjoyed listening to the Dirt Poets in the Romeo & Juliet lounge also. Great band. (My DH is a musician of 30+ years so we always check out the live music wherever we go). Now I'd have to go on the Sensation to hear them? Wonder what the band is like that replaced them on the Elation? Or if they put another band in their place?

We were on the Elation the week before Christmas and there were only two nights that the Romeo and Juliet Lounge had music. Monday night was "Party with the Contenders" (don't know what that was) and "Music Mix" was on Wed. night. (Did not check that out either). I went back and checked the Capers and those were the only two nights there was music in the R&J Lounge. We enjoyed the Karioke in the Cole Porter Lounge. It wasn't every night, but the lounge was full when they did have it. The year before, we loved "The Souvenirs" in the R&J Lounge and they were in there nearly every night. However, when I asked, the purser's desk told me that they rotate the staff around on different ships throughout the year. We didn't see any of the same staff that we had the year before.

We loved the Elation! (1/16/05) Ditto to Philly Steve's comments- the hotel staff and crew were great!! The Texas passengers were also a lot of fun and so very friendly. (It was a pleasure to cruise with them!) There was also a deck chair available every time I wanted one. We had a minor problem that was taken care of immediately. I could go on!
