What a fabulous vacation!! Our entire family of 14 went to celebrate my parents 50th weddning anniversary. Myself, Husband and parents flew out of St Louis on Jan 1 and arrived at the New Orleans Airport around 12:30 to 75 degree temperature. We had reservations at the Comfort Inn and Suites near the airport. I had rented a van that would hold the 4 of us as well as my 2 grown children who were arriving later than day.(We returned the van to the downtown location near the pier). This was cheaper than taxis to the pier and we had use of the vehicle that evening. We drove to the hotel and checked in. My dad was hungry so we walked to a restaurant at the corner. We were able to enjoy the happy hour oysters for 25c a piece and some cold beers. What a way to start your vacation. We picked the kids up at the airport around 5:30 and headed back to the hotel. My 2 sisters and their families had arrived the day before and after spending the day sightseeing in NO they came to meet us at the hotel. We loaded up the adults and my parents stayed with the kids(mine are over 21) and headed for the French Quarter. We had dinner reservations at the Red Fish Grill for 8:30. It was okay but have had better food in NO. We then toured Bourbon st stopping at some jazz clubs etc. We got back to the hotel at 2am.

The next morning we loaded up and headed to the pier. We left around 10:30. We had to wait in a long line of cars to drop off my parents, my kids, and the luggage. After we dropped them off my husband and I returned the rental car. The rental company drove us back to the peir. We did not go through the line of cars this time. They dropped us off at the corner of Julie St and we walked throught the back way to the port. When we arrived at the terminal the line was outside to board but it moved very quickly. We completed check in in around a half an hour and were on board. My parents and kids were waiting in the atrium bar for us with their first drink of the cruise. We headed to the lido for lunch.

My 2 sisters were doing long term parking. They drove to the parking garage and took a shuttle with their luggage to the terminal. They were very upset. There was only 1 shuttle running that day and they had a very long wait to get to the pier. We met up with them on the lido later on.

We had a good lunch on the lido and really enjoyed the deli sandwiches. I think my niece ate a turkey sandwich everyday. My husband and son ate at least 1 pastrami sandwich a day for the entire cruise.

After lunch we headed to our rooms and to rest before the lifeboat drill.

After the drill we all met up for drinks before dinner and to watch the ship pull away.

We had the 8:00 dinner seating in the Monet Dining Room. We had 2 tables.

One for 10 and one for 6. We did had 2 different server teams. One team was definitially better than the other.

After dinner most of us were ready for bed but the younger crowd, daughter 26, son 24, nephews, 18, and 20 headed to the casino.

The next day was spent at sea. We explored the ship and laid out on deck. It was windy but warm. We met up every evening before dinner for drinks etc. Some nights it was at the sushi bar and others at Alfred's bar which was across from the Monet dining room. They often had drink specials. One night was 2.95 cosmopolitans. They also had a jazz trio entertaining.

We had brought on 12 bottles of wine between us and uncorked a couple bottles every evening in our room and carried them to the dining room But we usually ordered at least 1 bottle of wine each evening.

We found the food good. My son is a professional chef and was satisfied with the quality and taste of the food. My daughter is a vegatarian and was also satisfied with the food selection. Luckily we are not dessert fanatics as the dessert selection was poor. The flourless chocolate cake and the grand marnier souffle should not be missed though.

Will finish later have to get back to work.

Have to get back to work?????????????

What kind of excuse is that. You whet our appetites with the start of your review and then quit. No way. We want to hear more. Soon. Are you some kind of cruise tease or what?
