How do you beat the post-cruise blues?

Recommended Posts

You don't have to book another cruise, but do have a couple of days out of your regular life scheduled for the next few weeks. A weekend away somewhere is great to look forward to and doesn't necessarily have to bust the bank. If that's not possible, set up lots of social events for the first couple weeks after you get back: coffee or walks with friends, movie nights, inviting people over for dinner.

Sometimes I think it's the break from reality I miss the most when I get back. We all need good stuff to look forward to in the short term -- planning the next vacation doesn't take care of that if it's too far out on the calendar.

After our cruise last month, we were seriously depressed to return to everyday life. It was just such a downer to have an incredible weeklong vacation followed by... getting in the car and driving home. Our solution? We decided to book another cruise for next month. Yeah, I know, not such a budget-friendly way out of the doldrums, so I was wondering if anyone else has some cheaper ways of easing the post-cruise transition. We return on a Friday, so we'll have a couple of days free before we head back to reality.

I guess what I'm really asking is: what do you do immediately after your cruise? Do you head right home and unpack, or do you give yourself a bit of a break, or...?

We book another cruise.:p Really.

I so appreciate your sensible approach to the question. Having spent a lifetime dealing with addictions, mine and those of others, I have NO patience for a lot of the hyperbole. Different strokes for different folks is another thing to be remembered and honored.

There is no way to shake the post cruise doldrums, EXCEPT, like everyone else is saying, BOOK another cruise. Take advantage of the cruise rewards while on the ship. We did, I came home, unpacked and the next day booked the same cruise I just came home from in November 2010 and then booked Bermuda in September 2011. Used my cruise rewards for one and booked the other for $250 because they were having a reduced deposit. For that one I got $300 OBC. So I think we did ok. We are already chatting about our November cruise. We don't give ourselves any time to get the no cruise doldrums. :D

I think the post-cruise doldrums are something that all of us on here have to deal with, and I think everyone on here who has said that the best solution is to immediately book another cruise. I try to take 2 cruises a year, but unlike others on here, I cannot book anything in advance. I work for an airline and our schedule bids are awarded month-to-month. So I always do last minute bookings. So I've found that going to Las Vegas a couple times a year, helps alleviate my cruise anxiety. The good dinners, shows and casinos are the closest thing to a cruise I can get without actually being on a ship. In the interim, I spend hours researching my future cruises :D
