What to do in FLL pre-/post- cruise?

Warm Breezes

Recommended Posts

We will be flying into FLL the day before and staying there after our cruise out of POM. We decided to stay at FLL Embassy Suites and have scheduled SAS to transfer us to/from POM. Our flight to FLL lands at 1:30 so we have some hours to kill in FLL the day before our cruise and also the day we return from our cruise as SAS will be bringing us back to FLL. Any sugestions on what to do with DS(16) and DD(13) during those extra hours in FLL?

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites on 17th Street many times..are doing so again in a few weeks. It is a good hotel (typical Embassy Suites) with a 2 hour Managers Reception each evening and a cooked to order buffet in the AM...it has a pretty good pool..we have always enjoyed our stays there. Alot of good resturants nearby (Outback is 2 minutes across the parking lot) plus alot of others nearby...alot of strip-mall shopping nearby.

It is too far too walk to a fabulous Ft. Lauderdale beach but it is well worth a few dollars taxi to got there...

There is the Watertaxi within a few blocks...down by the Hilton Marina..you can use that as a great tour of the canals plus the opportunity to get off and explore at all the stops..

Some folks think it is "hokey" but look at the Jungle Queen evening dinner cruise...(do a search on it).. a great upclose tour of the canal homes,etc.. an all-u-can-eat barbque dinner and a fun stage show...hokey, maybe, but still alot of fun...

enjoy Fort Laudedale...a great place to be..

Upon arrival at your hotel, dump your bags and then go catch the bus. Take the bus to Central Terminal or catch the number 11 (north) at 17th and Las Olas. Go to Commerical Blvd and A1A. Get off and walk towards the beach. Right there is Aruba, one of my favorite places in Ft. Lauderdale. Have a leisurely lunch right on the beach. You can hang out at the beach, walk on the pier and/or explore the little beachy shops around the area.

Another excursion is out to Sawgrass Mills Mall. Restaurants, Movies and outlet shopping. It's HUGE, over a mile long, and so much fun!

Las Olas Blvd is another place to explore and have a meal. I like Mangos there, but there are tons of little cafes, lounges and shops to see.

Beach Place right on Ft. Lauderdale beach is a dining and shopping complex. The kids seem to like it.

Golf? Swimming?

I agree, the water taxi rocks. They have an excursion down to South Beach, I'll be that's a bunch of fun!
