FYI new military program finally

I checked some of my old final ship board account statements (I keep them all) and all OBC has been lumped into one negative balance to start off the cruise. The only OBC that has been listed separtely is the $25 OBC we receive for over 20 cruises. After those two entries, all the "deductions" are listed daily or as we charge whatever we purchase. I haven't purchased casino credits from Princess prior to the cruise but have gone to the slot machines, signed up or whatever they call it and added X amount of credit to the slot machine. I don't do this alot so not for sure of the exact terminology that is used to describe this process. The amount of money I add to the slot machine is listed on my ship board account just as if I had purchased a drink or bought something in the boutique.

Thanks for sharing your experience for anyone considering to use their military OBC for the casino. :)

At this point there is no restriction but even if there was its still a great benefit. I would not care if they limited what it could be used for.

After all it was not too long ago when we did not have it at all and can be discontinued at any time so enjoy it while you can.

As Caribill said, OBC from your TA, Princess Stock, Military Service, or from future cruise bookings or however you receive your OBC, all go on your ship board account in one lump sum. You can get a copy of your ship board account when you board the ship to see all the OBC you have. Then anything charged against your account is deducted from the total OBC that you have received. Your tips/gratuties are deducted daily from the amount of OBC while other charges come off on the day you "buy" whatever. It doesn't matter what is charged, tips/coffee cards/specialty dining/boutique shoping/etc, it will come off against your total OBC reflected on you ship board account.

This is exactly right and at thend, you pay the difference. Actually last cruise we had quite a bit of OBC and did not have alot of purchases. We had to buy a couple extra coffee cards the last day so that we could spend our OBC.

I completely agree with you...:)

I'm just trying to clarify if anyone knows with 100% certaintly whether or not there is a limit as an earlier post stated.

I've emailed Liza at Princess to get it from the source to ask if there is any sort of limitation on it's use & will put her reply in this thread.

PLEASE let us know what she says. Some friends who have had the Military OBC before, said it just got added to their other OBC for a total amount, and then all charges and daily room gratuity got deducted from it. But they did not have any activity in the casinos.

The OBC is on your cabin account when you board. Basically it is a negative balance.

Anything charged to your account eats away at that negative balance until you start to owe Princess.

So, it is only in your own mind which of the charges are really free due to the OBC. If you want to say that it was used for a special night in a restaurant that you would not have done otherwise, then indeed it was used for that purpose even though it will not appear that way on the cabin statement.

Ok pretty much what I thought, yep, we owe, we owe & off to vacation we go!!! AND come back & pay the new totals off..:D BUT it WILL be fun!

Thanks!

Having never received OBC before for anything..DH does have this one after 20 yrs in Navy..as someone did say that even though it states for no charges/gratuities on the ship--that they cannot tell what it is used for, my question is--has anyone used this yet & were they able to use for charges? The reason I ask is EVERYTHING is charged--I thought we could use it for a special night at one of the restaurants?? Even shoppingat the stores would be charges.

Anything you purchase will be deducted from whatever balance (credit) you have in your account until it's gone. BTW, get back where you belong (11/29).....:p:p

I went to the Princess source (Liza McDaniel) about any limitations on it's usage & there are some.

I began a new thread on this subject (Military OBC Usage Limitations) where you can read about them instead of this answer being lost in this lengthy thread. :)

What a great program this is that Princess is offering. It was so easy to get this onboard credit and Lisa is very quick in responding to a request for the credit. Thanks Princess and everyone here for spreading the news.

We're newbies and just booked our first cruise with Princess. Went through an online travel agent and I asked if there was a military discount. My DH is retired after 27 years as an officer in the Marine Corps.

The agent put me on hold and called Princess. I faxed to our agent the copy of his id card and we will get $100 onboard credit for our 7 day cruise to Alaska.

Hope this helps some of you who are wondering.

By the way, "interline" is new to me... could someone please explain?

I just talked to a representative at Princess on Tuesday. She told me active, retired and veterans with 2 or more years of service were eligible for obc. Need to provide proof. Either valid military photo id or DD214 papers. Then mail or fax to Princess with Name, ship and sail date, and booking number. Fax # is 661-753-0151. She told me for our 7 day cruise we would get $100

I sent in for a copy of my husbands DD214 on Monday and will send in info as soon as I get it. Friend sent copy of her husbands ID card to princess and heard back in 48 hours from Lisa.

Royal Caribbean also will honor Military service of 2 years with a DD214 proof but only on certain cruises so you have to keep checking for it to be offered under special deals.

What is the DD214? I have my husbands Discharge Papers but can't find anyhthing else - he is a veteran of the Korean War.

What kind of photograph will they require??

This is a very nice thing that Princess is doing - I hope I can come up with what is needed to qualify my husband.

Thanks for you help.

DD214 IS the honorable discharge papers. :)

Glad to see Princess is giving something to the military.

I've been getting military discounts from Carnival & NCL for years.

(can't recall if Royal gave us any)

Certain times it's better to NOT use the military discount since the

prices are cheaper for non-military.

I usually book with NCL when they have the $300 OBC promotion.

Also, it might be better to forgo the $100 OBC from Princess and take

the Tropicana $300 OBC for a suite/penthouse/villa etc. :D

The DD214 is the final discharge paper.

Look at the bottom of the page for the form number.

We faxed the information on my husband to Princess - Lisa McDaniel along with a picture id - copy of driver's license - onboard credit for the cruise appeared on the cruise personalizer in less than 24 hours.

Thanks to Princess and the cruise critic members for posting the information.

Thank you for the information - my husbands Discharge Document bears the form # DD256 but then it was issued in August 1960.

The DD256 is the framable Certificate of Honorable Discharge, similar in appearance to your HS or College Diploma.

The DD214 is the Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, has much more information on it, and is the form that Princess is requesting.

If your husband completed basic training, he would have had both forms. The DD214 provided upon release from Active Duty, and the DD256 provided when he had completed his military obligation (usually 6 years from date of enlistment, including inactive or active Reserve Time).

If the DD214 is lost, you can apply for a replacement here: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html

If you'd like to jog your memory on what a DD214 looks like, you can take a look at Elvis Presley's, who was discharged in 1960. See Elvis' DD214 here: http://www.3ad.com/history/at.ease/elvis.section/photo.pages/dd.214.b.htm

Good luck!
