Just back from the Paradise, any questions???

Hello, I just got back from the Ensenada and Catalina Island cruise on the Paradise. My husband, 2 sons 11 &14 and my neice 15 and a 1,000 mile drive each way (600 miles with a new cat).

We got on the ship quickly at the Long Beach Pier. Disembarkment was a very slow process. It started at 7:30 am and we left the parking garage at 11:15 am. (our color was 2nd to last to be called) The food was great, the service in the dining room, room service and cabin stewards were great! Some of the staff was a little rude, but that didn't ruin our trip at all. We saw 3 great comedy shows (2 were R rated and one w/a magic show), 2 Las Vegas type shows w/singing and dancing, and a talent show. We did a lot of activites including: Who Wants to Be A Millionire, horse racing, Newlywed show, bingo, sports trivia and Game Show Mania. We had kids in 3 seperate age groups (although my son snuck into the older age group). 0-11, 12-14 & 15-17 The kids had a great time they played a lot of ping pong, swimming and dance club. Their favorite place and activity was the 24 hr pizza (which is very good pizza).

Any other questions? Let me know.

PS: They refused us bringing on soda when we got on the ship, but we were allowed to bring on soda and water when we got on in Catalina.

They just told my husband sorry you can't bring that on the ship. They didn't even ask what was inside (I don't think). He was carrying a soft sided 12 pk cooler over his shoulder. They made him go back to the truck and put it in there.

The 2 Las Vegas shows had 2 seatings, for the late dinner and early dinner. Day 2 - Here's Hollywood show was at 8:45 PM and 10:30 PM and the R-rated comedy show was at 12 AM. Day 3 there was a comedy show at 10:30 PM. Day 4 - Shout was at 7 PM and 8:45PM, the talent show that night was at 10:45 PM and the R-rated comedy show was at 12 AM.I wanted a late seating, but majority rules apparently. We had 5:45 (we asked for 6:15), we were always late and tired. There was no time to rest between the days activities and dinner. Also usually not being able to each lunch until 1-3 PM, left me not that hungry for dinner. If you plan to go to the shows late (like the R-rated comedy shows) and out drinking and dancing, I'd go for the late dinner seating. That will give you time to relax a little and rest. I was exhausted and full most of the cruise. That's just my opinion.

If you are taking more than a few drinks its best to conceal them or check it. A cooler can be viewed as excessive at certain piers. I imagine you ran into a security person that wanted to stick to the rules.

Glad you have a great time.

Hi Do you happen to remember the room service menu. I understand that they have hot food on it. We went on the spirit and no hot foods at all on the inroom menu. My daughter and I will be going on the paradise in May.

Thank you

B Kirkpatrick:)

Finally got on the computer. Loved the pictures. So glad you all had a great time, crummy to haul all the sodas there and not get them on. First time I have heard of someone refused. Private email tomorrow sometime. Carole

No hot foods on the room service menu on the Paradise. They had sandwhiches, drinks, cookies, cereal, and toast. Basic cold foods, they were good sandwhiches, I loved the BLT's and my husband liked the roast beef w/brie. The weather was nice the first 3 days, but on Thursday it started raining. We live in Oregon so we have been used to 30 - 45 degree weather during the day, so the 60's - low 70's was very nice, even with rain we never used jackets. Everyone was still swimming. Although, I hate to tell you as of today the 10 day forecast shows showers and thunderstorm Mon - Wed next week from Long Beach - Ensenada, but clearing up on Thursday. Good luck

The Cruise Director is Danny Blake. We just did a 3 day at the end of January and then 2 weeks later did the 4 day. I only say the CD at show times, never out and about around the ship. I would say as a CD he was

okay. We never let a CD make or break our cruise. We always have a good time.

Next up Alaska on the Spirit Sept. 12,2005

Formal night on my Paradise cruise last week was a joke. Bring whatever you want and you can still go into the dining room.

The water was rough, but we had rain for the first 2 days. Trevor Block was the CD last week. He was all over the ship.

Same thing on our 2nd formal night. A table of 8 or 10 people behind us were in t-shirts and jeans. Very tacky!
