Just off the Pride.

Recommended Posts

Ship is like new. No wear and tear. Very clean. Decor is over the edge:eek: Felt like a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, instead of a cruise ship.

I expected it, so no surprise. DH liked the decor. I was entertained by it. Cabins are well kept. Regular balcony cabins are small. I dont know why people say Carnivals cabins are larger then "the other lines". Maybe when comparing the old fantasy class ship to the older royal ships, the carnival cabins were larger, but not the case with the new ships. The balcony cabins are no bigger then the balcony cabins on Royal. We had family members with 3 in a cabin and they were pretty tight. The inside cabin my daughter was in was very comfortable. Had plenty of room for two of them.

We had a cat. 11 suite. Would compare it to a C catagory mini suite on Royal and a sky suite on Celebrity. Only a cat. 12 is higher with Carnival and its not much differant then the 11.

Food was good. Loved the ice cream bar. Mermaids grill was great with alot of choices. Also, the coffee, tea, and punch stations are great!

Service was just so, so. Waiter never did know our names. In a hurry and seemed distracted. I missed the personal service we have experianced in the past. We missed being able to order incabin meals when we were to tired from being on shore to go to the dining room. Also, missed being able to have a nice breakfast in our cabin. Balcony doors are slamming at all hours. Wish people realized they can be gently closed behind them.

Very noisy cabin. No sleeping in on this cruise. Cabins are not well insulated for noise. :(

The pub crawl was fun! Also a good way to visit each club. The disco "beauty's" is very strange in my opinion. Its a hole deep in the very bottom of the ship. small and a strange design. I think for young teens it would be a fun club, but for the older crowd that wants a disco night life, it is not the best.

The price may be good with Carnival, but I felt Nickel and Dimed at every turn. The ship was like a floating Picture taking studio. Back drop of every kind, all at once.

Carried on a bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne o.k., but the bottle of Baily's got taken. give me a break. Makes no sense at all. Davids charged $10.00 to open our wine and poured once. We had to pour the rest ourselves. Other then that, Davids was absolutely fantastic food! The best ever.

pools are awsome. Very nice. :) Only saw one diaper with a baby in it in the pool!

the pools are all very inviting, unlike the strange high walled holes I remember on the old carnival ships.

Overall, great cruise. Lots of fun. Yes we did notice a differant class of people. I'm being honest, not negative. Differant is not bad. There are cruise lines available so that people dont need to feel intimidated by cruising and Carnival is one of them. Yes, we saw jeans in the dining room. Even shorts. Oh well. Didnt bother me. I went into this cruise with an open mind. They did a great job on the Pride for Super bowl. Also it was on in your cabin. Speaking of, tv, I was surprised that there are now network channels available.

I am hopping all over the place here, so I will leave it this. Questions? I'll pop back. Skippers club was a savior. I would have needed valium to get on the ship other wise. Expect a very slow embarkation........................with alot of unhappy people. It was worth the price of a suite just for the embarkation! (for me anyway)

You said your bottle of Bailey's was taken- how did you have it packed? Was it in your checked luggage or carryon?

it was in my carry on. three bottles total. One champagne, one wine, and one Bailey's. :( My luggage was close to over weight and I didnt want to take a chance with it being over 50 lbs. We flew america west and they are real sticklers for over weight check on bags.

I am pleased to see that Carnival has finally decided to *enforce* their rules.

I, too, was on the 2/6/05 Pride cruise and I will never cruise the Mexican Riviera this time of year again. We always take our cruises in February to break up the cold winters of Michigan. Have always gone to the Caribbean. That is where we will be next year! It was cold on this cruise and our whole group was so disappointed. Only 2 warm days. Our day in Puerto Vallarta and the one in Mazatlan. Cabo was pouring rain and getting back on the tender was a nightmare. One lady broke both of her legs because the tender boat was so rocky. I tried to buy an umbrella and was told at one of the shops that it doesn't rain in Cabo. The same time there was a flash flood outside the window!! The rest of the way home it was so chilly that we all wore sweatshirts. There were very few people in the pool on sea days.

This was not the cruiseline's fault, but, we live and learn about the weather in different parts of the country.

I lost my luggage and even though the cruiseline had not arranged my flight they gave me $50 credit. I thought that was a very nice gesture.

Service is definitely better on RCCL, but, we like the Carnival food better. So, I guess you have to decide for yourself which things are important to you. Next time we are going RCCL, though, just for the change of pace.

I am tired and ready to resume my regular life, but, will be cruising this time again next year!!

Susan

Hi,

I've got a aft cabin on hold for Feb. 26, 2006, and am wondering if I would like Carnival or not......I've cruised almost all other cruise lines EXCEPT Carnival. Our most recent cruises have been on the BIG ships, of Royal Caribbean and LOVE THEM. We just got off the Disney Magic and I was not thrilled at all with there ship....the food was very good. So with you having traveled on both Carnival and Royal what can you tell me.......should I chance it or stick with Royal? Also I read about how cool the weather was.......The last couple times we cruised in Feb. out of Florida it was cool too..........I'm just soooooooooo confused.......LOL Any advise you could give would be greatly appreciated.......

Thanks,

Sandy

Did you say no roomservice? Why!

there IS room service. Its just a very limited menu. Sandwiches. No full breakfast and you can not order from the dining room menu for dinner in your cabin.

Breakfast is fruit and cereal, yogart.

Well, you just need to think about ALL of the reasons you love Royal. Then take those reasons, and ask what that paticular situation is like on Carnival.

Maybe Carnival offers some of the things you love, maybe not.

Surroundings? Colors? Do they affect you? Your mood?

Are you a member of Crown and Anchor? Does it matter?

What type of Cabin do you prefer?

Meals? How important is it to have the choice of meals brought to your cabin?

Spa? service? Average. What do you consider good service? Does it matter?

Is it important that the buffet food be open all the time?

Have you had waiters that you remember? Did they remember you throughout the week? Go out of there way to check on your needs? Do you care?

Will seeing jeans in the dining room bother you? Even shorts at dinner?

Singing and dancing waiters? Every night. Do you enjoy? A festive dining room, or more refined?

Cabin stewards that are off duty from noon to 4:00 everyday. Does it matter?

Is it important for you to be able to purchase liquor, either in ports or from the ship and take it back to your cabin?

Balcony doors, instead of sliders Plastic balcony furniture on balcony instead of heavy metal.

We all have different reasons for cruising vs. land based resorts. What are those reasons? Is it the food? the Sea? Nautical? How important is the concept of sailing on a ship?

Do you enjoy getting your picture taken while on a ship? Would being solicited to have your picture taken constantly while on board bother you? Is there a 20 year old in the family that is used to Royals drinking rules? (this was a pain in @$$ on Carnival)

We went on the pride for a family reunion. If I were choosing a cruise to spend my hard earned money on I would not have gone with Carnival. Did my experiance change my mind? No. Was it a bad experiance? NO, not at all. I just prefer Royal and Celebrity.

Thanks..........I think we will try it........got an aft cabin which we love.....and I guess we'll just have to see whether we'll cruise it again or not........the one friend we're cruising with has been on Carnival and says if we don't like it we can yell at her all week long.......heck that works for me.........LOL

FYI - we had booked a Mexican Riveria cruise for March of this year and cancelled it because I read/heard that it's cold most of the time. I'm glad I changed it and we are going back the Carribean (3/13) where we know it's warm this time of year. Sorry this happened to you, I'm really surprised that your travel agent/Carnival didn't inform you of the weather situation. Let's face it most people go on cruises to get away from the cold winter months, if people want to be cold they would go on Alaskan cruises, correct me if I am wrong.

I lived in Mexico not far from PV for 4 years and generally the weather is OK this time of the year.. Nights can be chilly but daytimes are fine. Rain is somewhat unusual this time but maybe the Baja is different than the Riviera. I had to give Carnival alot of credit. I, too, was skeptical of Carnival having sailed Celebrity 3 times as well as RCI, Disney and NCL and was pleased with Carnival. Celebrity had great food but Carnival was a pleasant surprise. The food on RCI was a surprise and not a pleasant one. Carnival isn't the only one with limited room service menu. RCI was about equal in that department. Never had any problems with Carnival's service on my only experience with them. As far as the break the stewards have, found the same to be true on other lines as well. They are Human and they need down time as well. But then, I don't sleep past noon. My kids did and we always found their cabin cleaned and ready to go.

RCI room service menu includes eggs, cooked the way you request and breakfast meats for breakfast. :)

There are chef salads etc.

Also you can ask for the dining room menu during dining hours.

(just dont want there to be a mis understanding) ;)

We had very warm weather during a feb mex riv cruise in the past. That cruise gave me more hope for this past week. Oh well. You just never know. We had horrible weather on a christmas western caribbean cruise too. The weather is crazy. You just never know.

Fords.........my favorite ships are RCCL's Explorer and Voyager. Th Promonade is like going to a mall. What fun ships! So many ammenities!! I can hardly wait for their new ship coming out in the summer of 2006. It is suppose to be even larger! The bigger the ship, the less chance you have of getting sea sick. I have found that to be true, anyway. The smaller ships experience a lot more rocking. Just hope it sails to the Caribbean. I am staying away from the west coast in February from now on!!

But, the food is still better on Carnival.......:D

We were on the 2/6 Pride also. We enjoyed the cruise although I don't think I will do the Mexican Riviera again, especially this early, We'll go back to the sunny Caribbean. Thought the activity on ship was the most enjoyable in our 7 cruises. We did not participate in all of it but was very enjoyable to watch. The Pub Crawl was great fun to watch as they came through two areas where we spent time. Our waiter was great and our room steward was one of the best we ever had. The social host and her assistant kept things hopping. Greg Kneale was good, but we had been previously spoiled by John Heald. I would say that Greg rated 2nd behind Heald in our cruises. Greg let us all know that he has resigned and had 4 weeks left. Good luck to Greg! In all a very enjoyable time except for the weather. Had a great tour in Mazatlan arranged by Mazatlan Frank. We went with a fellow cruise critic on the tour. Again all was enjoyable except the weather. Oh, by the way, the casino actually paid off.
