average passenger ages

We have never cruised before and have been trying to decide which to book. Star Clippers is looking very good, but we're wondering what the average age is for the Caribbean cruises. I realize that past does not necessarily indicate future, but would still appreciate reading others' experiences.

Thank you.

Hi -

Welcome to Cruise Critic..... I took my first cruise when I was 35. It's been my observation that age isn't the important factor on a small ship, but rather it's the passenger's attitude and expectations.

I'm taking my first Star clipper cruise, on the Royal Clipper on Dec. 11. Based on what I've read here, and my experience on a lower end sailing line (Windjammer Barefoot Cruises) I think I will find a more active group during the day, with a elegant casual feel at night. I also expect there will be many passengers who are there to be on a real sailing ship. That's why I picked this line over, say Windstar, or any other to celebrate my 50th birthday.

What sort of atmosphere are you looking for?

Aloha,

John

I would say the average age would be late 40's to 60. There are some young couples and also quit a few seniors. The group with the least would probably be those with school age children---you know where disney and then family sight seeing trips are important. Very few if any children aboard as there is really not any planned iteneray for them . We have sailed 3 times with them and plan to do the Caribbean this winter. I would guess it might be a little younger than the european trips. But as said by jcl410 it really does not matter. We have enjoyed being with the entire age demographic and everyone seems to interact. There is more of a seperation as to where people are from usually because of language. You will enjoy Star Clippers.

We have been on the Royal Clipper eight times (9th trip booked) and on the Star Clipper three times - and there are people who have been on the Clippers much more than us. We have met fellow passengers from, say, the late twenties to 100 (literally - one only). Main group probably from 40's to 60's. You meet some very interesting people from several countries and, with luck, you will make new friends (we have) and have wonderful stories for years to come. If you go - be prepared. It might just be your holiday of a lifetime. Good luck

We have sailed w/Star Clippers 5 times, with our sixth trip booked for

Costa Rica in January, 2011. We have been on all three ships, but

we prefer Star Flyer and Star Clipper to the larger Royal Clipper. That

said, all three are wonderful and the passengers include a wide variety

of European, Australian and American sailers. The common thread

is the love of the sailing ship and the distinct lack of casinos, art

auctions, huge lines for everything, etc. Star Clippers enjoys many,

many repeat customers with great stories about past sailings. Cannot

imagine how anyone could come away without thinking about their

next trip!
