Carnival was going to serve my 16 yo a DOD!

I forgot to mention this in my review of the Carnival Destiny. Right after embarkation we went to the buffet to get lunch. DD(13), DS(16), and I got our food first while DH watched are luggage. We returned and while DH was getting his food I flagged down a waiter to get 2 Funship Specials for DH and I. The waiter took my information and sat one drink in front of me and the other in front of DS. He had a grin like this :D on this face until I took it from him, sat it next to DH's seat and said "not for you" with a  look on my face. The waiter's face was like this :o. DS is 6'7" but he is skinny and still has a very boyish face. I couldn't believe the waiter thought he was old enough to drink and was just going to give it to him without even checking his age. I'm gonna have to start keeping my eye on that boy.

He's still my baby boy no matter how tall he gets:D.

I think the waiter probably assumed that you were ordering for your son........I see a lot of parents doing that....my parents would let me have wine and stuff at family functions..

We sailed on the Glory last week and there was no shortage of alcohol offers towards my two teenagers, both on the ship and in the ports. At one port, Cozumel, my son was not only offered a shot but also a "titty twister". He was a little disappointed that we said no, LOL. My daughter is 17 and my son is 15. They look pretty young for their ages (I'd say my daughter looks about 12) and I was surprised especially about my daughter being offered drinks.

I would have taken this as a time for a good learning opportunity. You should have left the drink in front of him and watched to see what he was going to do. His eyes may have lit up but he may have passed on it or asked before he grabbed for it. Had he picked it up I would have said something and then took it away.

if you bought your child into a bar, i assume you would be supervising the refreshments. you should be doing the same on a ship

Honestly, I don't see the big deal, my parents started giving me small glasses of wine at around age 11, 12. I'm not an alcoholic, far from it. They ordered me fruity drinks on the cruises when I was around 14. I never thought it was a big deal, and I never drank to the point of getting drunk.

We were on the Sensation in September it was myself, wife,daughter(26), and 3 sons(24,22,17) the 17 is 5"11 and about 190-200 lbs. went to casino one night and there the 17 year old was sittling playing black jack with his brothers. Next night I'm in the casino playing black jack he comes up behind me to watch me and the dealer asked for his ID since he didn't have it to prove he was 21 they kicked him out.

I don't know. YOU were the one who ordered the 2 drinks. Your DH wasn't there when the waiter delivered. The bartender probably thought that either a) the boy was old enough or b) you didn't care.

I agree with this! Thankfully he didn't order one by himself, and they didn't serve it to him - now that would be an issue, but not this.
