Just off Conquest

Recommended Posts

We had an awesome holiday in New Orleans and on the Conquest! Excellent food especially in the diningroom. The rooms were great - our first balcony! WE paid for inside low level and were upgraded (for being a past cruiser) to balcony on the 9th floor. The food and pools were on our floor so everything was so handy. The rooms were also very soundproof. Weather was 75-80 and no rain (until the day we left)! New Orleans was an experience...especially when the street we were staying on ended and we ended up on Burbon Street! We had grama and grampa and two kids with us so we had to make a u turn and get out of there!! The ports were a lot of fun - sad to be home!!! Any questions...email me.... balezantis@sasktel.net

Wow.......what an upgrade! We booked assigned rooms, lower level, because we need 2 rooms next to each other. Oh well, we'll use the stairs for exercise. What did you do at the ports? What hotel did you stay at? Any Conquest or New Orleans tips?

With all the food - you'll need the stairs!! haha

The ports...in Jamaica we took a cab to the recommended shopping. That was a disaster. Even though we knew the Jamaican people were agressive and rude - it can still be disheartening. They got mad at you when you don't buy from them.. We left quickly and took another cab to Margaritaville. It was great. The kids loved the two trampolines in the ocean. They even provided a free life jacket to our 5 year old. In Grand Cayman we took an island tour combined with a visit to the Turtle Farm and Stingray petting zoo - in the middle of the ocean. IT took up the entire day but well worth it. WE all enjoyed the tour of the devistated island from the hurricane, the turtle farm and swimming with sting rays! In Mexico...we shopped...a lot. There was plenty of shopping within walking distance from the port. It was fun and the kids loved the bargaining for souveniers.

SInce we also had 4 days in New Orleans we visited the zoo and aquarium...excellent and rated among the best in North America. We took a trolley ride through the garden district and a horse ride tour through the French Quarter. All excellent. We stayed at the Doubletree for $99 a night a block from the Riverwalk mall. A great place to shop and eat. The mall is also connected to the port so we walked to our hotel. No waiting! WE were off the ship at 8 in the morning and into our hotel by 8:30. They let us drop off our bags and our room was ready by noon. We booked the room through the Harrah's Casino website and it was at least $100 less! The casino is 10 feet from the hotel. Another great thing to see in NO. OVerall it was a great trip! Can't wait until we can do it again!

Is the Doubletree Inn suites? Were bringing two teenagers with us & are looking for rooms that have a living room with a pull out couch.

The horses are all lined up by the French Market...you can't miss them. The ride was $10 each and it took about 1/2 hour. We thought it was worth the $ and a great ride.
