Rare xpcdoojk Posted March 22, 2005 #201 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Great topic! Is it worth recanting the booze from the original bottle to a plastic tupperware type? Buddy recanting?  :D I think that is what you should do about most of your posts. jc

wwinfl91 Posted March 23, 2005 Author #208 Share Posted March 23, 2005 Bicker, All polls are flawed in some way since all people are flawed. At least my poll wasn't as flawed as some of the ones are current administration is using as support for their insistence that Social Security is going broke and we should allow personal investment accounts to save it. When in reality the real people that will benefit from personal investment accounts are the stock brokerage companies and the banks which is all GW really cares about. This should draw a little activity on this thread. By the way almost all poll questions are oriented to try to prove the point that the person making up the poll questions is trying to support. Have a great next cruise.
FinelyCruising Posted March 23, 2005 #209 Share Posted March 23, 2005 I have posted on this thread quite a bit but still have not taken the poll. Still deciding on which way to vote....:D

bUU Posted March 23, 2005 #211 Share Posted March 23, 2005 All polls are flawedPlease don't get me wrong: I wasn't saying anything was wrong with the poll. What I was commenting on how much discussion there was about the poll, given how obvious its result was to be. Perhaps this is an artifact of the confusion some have between an all-inclusive experience and a non-all-inclusive cruise. Regardless, I suppose in retrospect that it did seem strange to question whether people prefer to pay for something versus getting it free (especially since it wouldn't actually be free, in that it would result in paying more elsewise), but again, that wasn't my point. By the way almost all poll questions are oriented to try to prove the point that the person making up the poll questions is trying to support.I think The West Wing gives us a rather distorted view of polling. In business, the purpose of getting input from the market is to gain a clearer understanding of what is, not to get (albeit illegitimate) confirmation of what you wish, as is often the case with political polling. In most non-political circumstances, polling is intended to give the masses a voice, but if the question asked isn't rational, the poll has no substance of legitimacy. I didn't actually consider that CC is a political forum, but perhaps you're right, that it is!
wwinfl91 Posted March 23, 2005 Author #212 Share Posted March 23, 2005 Sorry about giving you a hard time, Bicker. Having been on cruises on other lines, HAL and Princess recently who allow you to take wine onboard and when we signed up for this cruise, almost a year ago RCCL did also, and then to see the postings that RCCL was now not allowing wine to be brought openly onboard I was a little teed off so I started this thread in hopes that someone from RCCL would check the boards and see that they were alienating their customer base. I will admit the way the questions were phased was done to hopefully get more votes against the new policy than for but I felt I was being fair in allowing people to also vote that it didn't matter to them. I was and continue to be surprised at the number of people who voted in the poll that it didn't matter to them. I don't know if this is because they intend to sneak the wine onboard no matter what the policy is or whether it is because they really don't care about the subject. Anyway glad to have your input and have a great next cruise.
FinelyCruising Posted March 23, 2005 #213 Share Posted March 23, 2005 Sneak Wine??? I'm not going to sneak wine....that sounds so covert, and filled with a brain damage agenda which I shy far away from when I cruise to decompress. What I am going to do is wrap it up real good before I leave so I can safely travel with it, take it on board, and hand it off to my room steward to deliver to the dining room for my enjoyment at dinner on the evening of my choice. Me too, except for the wine/champagne that we enjoy on our balcony. But then again, we usually just order from the wine list for dinner. It's not the best in the world, but it's convenient. Cheers! wwinfl91 Posted March 24, 2005 Author #215 Share Posted March 24, 2005 We usually enjoy the wine we bring onboard in our cabin and verandah and purchase wine from the ships wine list in the dining room. The wine we bring onboard usually isn't expensive but it is wine we enjoy drinking. We also enjoy finding wine in the ports we visit that are from that area or country and trying them out. Have a great next cruise.

island lady Posted March 24, 2005 #217 Share Posted March 24, 2005 When we did the Windsurf around the Med. a couple of years ago, we had a great time with the head waiter and wine steward who loved it when we would bring one of our "finds" to enjoy with dinner. We offered them a taste every night and they were always anxious to see what we came up with. Along with the regular tips at the end of the cruise, we also gave them a bottle each that we purchased for them. They loved that more than the tip! cheers! skandls Posted March 24, 2005 #219 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Have you ever had problems travelling with champagne? I have been nervous about flying (maybe checking) because I have heard rumours of the bottles popping the cork. Just for Island Lady - my most fav champagne is winston churchill but I settle for nv pol roget. I wonder how rccl can explain corkage fees for the wine that is not supposed to be there? I have flown before the airline weight limits were changed a lot of champagne and sparkling wines all over the planet, and I have never had a bottle open or break. I used to fly with them in a waterproof float bag with bubble wrap inside a suitcase, but they fly fine. Nice choices on the champers! jc

I followed that advice, and have never had a problem. ONE WARNING: Do you have a cabin with a balcony? If not, don't open the champagne in the cabin. Go up on deck. If you have a balcony, open it out there. We have always had an aft balcony cabin. The highlight is waiting until it's getting dark, going out on the balcony, and working the cork ssssllllllllooooooooowwwwwwwwllllllllllllyyyyyyyy out of the champagne bottle. Just for Island Lady - my most fav champagne is winston churchill but I settle for nv pol roget. I wonder how rccl can explain corkage fees for the wine that is not supposed to be there? I always smile when I read that too, as to the "no liquor brought on board" policy, and yet they are happy to charge corkage....huh??!! ;) I always hand carry my wine/champagne onto the plane with me. My luggage takes such a horrible beating with the airlines, that I could never pack it in the checked stuff. Never had any problems (so far) taking it as carry on. ( I use a rolling bag...stuff weighs a ton!! ). Then when we get to the ship, I pull out the bubble wrap and put it in the luggage. However, I think I will only do my "balcony gin" in it's plastic flask packed in my checked bags at the pier from now on. I will hand carry my 1-2 bottles of wine in my carry on to board the ship. If it gets taken away, I will simply collect it at the end of the cruise. My next cruise leaves from Port Canaveral, which is only 5 miles from my house. My Champagne will still be chilled when I get to my cabin!! :D Cheers!
