Money in Caribbean

While the islands may accept USD, they likely will give you change in local currency. If you are planning to buy small, inexpensive widgets, you might want to take small bills ashore so you don't get a wad of island money in change.

Hi Kelley! :D

Not a dumb question. I asked same thing about the Casino in Aruba on the Ports of call forums and surprisingly, even the casino there takes US Dollars. So I was told anyway. Thought after our morning tour there, may duck into the casino for a VERY short period.

Like Camp637 says, we'd probably get change back in local currency so small bills are a good idea. Anytime I've bought anything - like in St. Maarten - the price was always in USDollars.

All of the major islands do. They may have their own currencies (Eastern Caribbean dollar is a popular one), but they will happily accept your USD. The only exceptions I can think of are Martinique and St. Barth's: both used to use the franc and now only use Euros. Taking small bills is preferable, both for bargaining purposes and so you won't be stuck with their currency after making a purchase.

Thank you every one - thanks for the tip of taking small bills. Probably a good idea to have $1 anf $5 only. Anything over $10 will probably use credit card.

:D Sounds good to me!!
