local currency necessary?

I wonder whether it is necessary/advisable/not necessary to change US dollars into Quetzal for the few hours we will be in Antigua on Good Friday.

 

Will any store be open on such a high holiday? I love Guatemalan cloth and would buy if I could.

but wouldn t use credit cards,,,just to be on safe side,,,,can always double check on ship,,,then change money at ATM,,if necessary...but,,,think you ll be fine....just ask for lower price,,,always got a "deal",,,????but felt better...:)

We have just returned from cruise through Panama Canal with stop at Guatemal, we did take a Quetzel as well as dollars, quite a few shops had good dispayed in local currency but were willing to take either so not a problem but don't know about religious holidays.
