RoRothman Posted January 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2011 WE are considering a transatlantic cruise.. and need a good deal .. but we have no idea how much more to budget for all the "extras".. when you see a fare for $899... about how much more should we expect to pay for airfare, transfers.. a night at a hotel.. and excursions.. and how does that compare with deals that are offered by "Voyages to Antiquity " that include airfare.. and tours.. We could use some help figuring how much all this stuff would cost.. we are just deciding it is time to venture further than the Carribbean.. ( by the way we would cruise from Ft Lauderdale and need to fly back here..

( by the way we would cruise from Ft Lauderdale and need to fly back here.. My wife and I did a transatlantic (our fifth) last spring on the Equinox. Our additional expenses came to about $2,900, including air to Fort Lauderdale and return from Rome to Seattle, tips, drinks, three nights at specialty restaurants and meals and lodging for two nights in Rome. This did not include about $700 for a housesitter, kenneling our dog or money we spent visiting Italian friends in Northern Italy.
NJ Fred Posted January 29, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2011 We are booked on Equinox for a TA in late November. We did Choice Air from Philadelphia non-stop to Rome for $520/pp. We booked US Airways on our own for the flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Philly. That came to $135/pp. Last year we used Holland America's air from Philly to Rome via Paris (the worst airport on the face of the earth. That came to $858/pp. Like this year, we did our own Ft. Lauderdale to Philly on US Airways for $129/pp. Get Choice Air prices but also do your own searches on the various airline websites. And if it cost a few bucks more to fly to/from overseas non-stop - - it will be a wise investment. Whatever you do, do not let anyone route you through Paris. That airport is a disgrace to The Wright Brothers. Happy Cruise!

RoRothman Posted January 31, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted January 31, 2011 do the cruise lines ever get you non stop flights ? and can you stay a few days in europe and still book airfare through the cruise lines?
jerseygirl3 Posted January 31, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2011 do the cruise lines ever get you non stop flights ? and can you stay a few days in europe and still book airfare through the cruise lines? Yes, that's the beauty of Choice Air. Years ago, if you wanted to deviate and "customize" your air through the cruiseline, you had to pay extra. Not anymore. You can go to the cruiseline's website and when you put in your reservation number and put in your choices (date, number of stops, etc.). It will give you a list of what's available. We're doing a TA in October on Liberty of the Seas. We are flying non-stop Philly to Barcelona on USAir two days prior to the sailing for $545/pp.
