nho9504 Posted March 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2005 I have reserved a 4x4 with them for our Summit cruise arriving 4/25/05. The office at cruise terminal closes at 5pm. I wonder if one can return the car in afterhour ? Read about some posts about no one at the terminal office when they were there to pick up cars - but it seems to me the date that had problem was Dec 24, Friday - may be that was a holiday other than office at airport ... Appreciate any inputs.
lephysteria Posted March 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2005 Hi, I'm not sure about the smaller local rental companies - but I inquired tonight via Avis and Hertz. Both have locations at the cruise ship pier and both close rather early. Avis is open from 0800-1300 (8a-1p), so that's only 5 hours. Hertz is open from 0800-1700, but closed for 1 hour for lunch (1200-100). I talked with the agent at Avis to find out if we can bring the car back later. She said no, we have to have it back before they close. It kinda bummed us out too. Hertz was $45 for the compact and $35 for the ecomony car, and this was way cheaper than a ship excursion. hope this helps.
premiumrican Posted March 25, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2005 I used Thrifty to rent a 4x4. The Rep told us we can keep the car as long as we want. She said to park the car in the lot outside put the keys in the glove compartment and lock the car. They would retrieve the car the next morning. Worked out well. We dropped the car off around 6 pm and there wasn't a car rental rep in sight. The area was actually closed. I saw alot of people doing what we were told to do. Guess most of the smaller agencies have the cruise passengers drop off their cars that way.

nho9504 Posted March 28, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Did you book your Thrifty on website or you got it when you arrived Aruba ? I figure that we could return the car at airport, say 6 or 7pm and then take a bus back to the town from airport. I called Aruba tourism office in Ft.Lauderdale, they assure me there are frequent buses between airport and town, and they are inexpensive. Will check with Hertz when we pick up our 4x4, whether we could leave the car with key locked inside at cruiseship terminal in afterhour. thanks for your info. floridaboyz Posted April 3, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2005 We used Hertz in 10/04. Rented a 4 x 4 and had a great time. We used the 1-800 number to rent it and were told the car had to be back by 5:00. When we got to the rental place at the dock in Oranjestead the lady said she left at 5:00 and if we got back later than that, no problem, just leave the keys in the glove box and lock the car. We had a great time for the four of us and will do this again when we make it back to this beautiful island.
