Cymro1953 Posted April 10, 2011 Author #26 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Just put in for my bus pass, that is what the cruise is celebrating! Dare I ask for any info on desserts? or aren,t you a "pudding" man :D Not really a "pudding man" despite my waistline. But a lovely selection of chilled desserts and also 1 hot pudding with custard. But be careful if you have a soya intolerance. Dw was unwell after the custard. She has a soya intolerance and they must make the custard using some form of soya milk like in Coffee Mate. They also have a cheese and biscuit selection too, but most nights the cheese seemed to be different shapes of Edam. No good strong cheese. Cymro1953 Posted April 10, 2011 Author #28 Share Posted April 10, 2011 cymro1953, do you work for Thomsons?, just that you NEVER say ANYTHING negative about them but yet in your pictures your family are clearly unhappy! No, I definitely have no connection with Thomson's. It must be the pics catching us at the wrong moment, we had a great time. I have been holidaying with Thomson's since 1976 as both a hotel holiday and more recently a cruise customer. I would not keep coming back if I had a bad time. Cymro1953 Posted April 10, 2011 Author #29 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Thanks, how was the SUITE?, just that most here will suffice with the inside cabin or if lucky .. the outside with a port hole! Are your family smiling now? :D The suite was fine thanks. We only took it because we had son No.2 with us and we thought if we had a 4 berth he'd have trouble getting in and out of the top bunk when drunk. Which seemed most nights, coming in at 3 to 4 a.m.. Also DW will not do a low down cabin. She doesn't want to see the fish going up and down outside the porthole :D But she noticed when the curtains between us and the lounge were closed between us and where son No.2 was sleeping, it was like being in an inside cabin. Smiling? we bought the cruise DVD, you should see DW strutting her stuff on it on the sailaway party. Berwyn

Berwyn Quite right too, Berwyn. You don't need to apologise for anything. Most on here are regular Thomson customers - as you say, you wouldn't travel with them if you weren't satisfied or there were lots of negatives so it's to be expected that you'll be pretty positive. And what's with the 'most on here will suffice with an inside - or if lucky a porthole'? Unusual first post and second come to that!

Berwyn The cheese selection is not exactly inspiring but there are different sorts. On my last cruise someone at my table only liked blue cheese and eventually ended up with plates of the stuff. The waiter did not quite get it as despite being competent and friendly seemed not to get the joke. Thinks? neither did I but was dissapointed that a huge pile of cheese was not delivered on the last night.
ekco Posted April 11, 2011 #45 Share Posted April 11, 2011 Hi Berwyn I couldn't resist the 'morose features' comment last night, lol. Years ago on Corrie Alec Gilroy said that about Liz MacDonald, brilliant bit of writing. Almost as good as an aunt of mine who piped up at a funeral that her ex husband's 2nd wife was 'almost pretty'. What a put down.:D:D Jan

We did have a blue cheese at the end of the cruise in the buffet. Berwyn
Norwich30 Posted April 11, 2011 #47 Share Posted April 11, 2011 Hi Cymro1953, First timer here and very reassuring to have read your reviews. One question i have is what currency did you take/need? Do you need any money on board and was it simply small notes required when on the excursions? Secondly, is there somewhere on board the ship to fill up a bottle with drinking water before heading out on the excursions? Thank you.

Hi Norwich, Yes there is iced water on tap in the Lido Buffet, but don't stick your bottle under the tap. You have to fill your glass up and decant it into your bottle. You don't need any cash on board as it's a cashless system. Not sure about in the casino though. We took Egyptian Pounds and Jordanian Dinar and also US 1dollar notes. (the last are handy for tips or in the toilets if you've got no small denomination foreign currency. But the accept Pounds, Euros, US$ everywhere. You don't really need foreign currency.
