Sprint non-GSM Cell Phone in Western Caribbean?

Normally I don't worry about using a cell phone or the internet while on a cruise however we just put dad in an assisted living facility a couple of months ago and we're a little nervous about the inability for them to contact us in case of emergency.

 

Does anyone know (for sure):

 

1. Will I be able to use a non-GSM cell phone (Samsung Rant) in Cozumel and/or Grand Cayman without astronomical roaming fees?

2. Will I be able to use a non-GSM cell phone (Samsung Rant) on-board the Inspiration (even if I had to pay an astronomical roaming fee)?

 

I suppose I could pick-up a pre-paid/disposable at each/either port to touch bases.

In Grand Cayman last November had issues with my ATT Quad Band only could receive calls. Turned on my Sprint EVO and was able to make outbound calls. I think the 15 minute call cost somewhere around $58 with all fees and tax.

Was amazed the GSM phones had issues and this one worked.

Add Sprint International Roaming to your plan. It's four bucks a month and you can cancel it upon return.

Calls from both Grand Cayman and Cozumel are $.69/minute.

There is satellite cellular available on board at the price of $2.49/minute billed to your cellular account. The service is provided by Cellular At Sea.
