Extremely Disappointed in Princess Customer Care
I guess the ads do work, however by doing minimal research you learn what a horrible industry the "Cruise Co.s" are. Not just because they have a bad customer service record, but what they do environmentaly and in terms of human rights abuse. The parts of the ships the public sees are a fantasy, the reality is the underbelly. Do not even bother to reply to this, instead go do some research on this corrupt industry and if after learning, you continue to sail away it wont be because you are ignorant.Signed: Aware and with a conscience
That's just great. Come up here on a Cruise Discussion Forum, tell everyone here who likes to cruise that they are supporting a "corrupt industry", tell your side of the story and then shut down the debate and refuse to defend your position. Your "courage" is overwhelming.

The last time I checked, slavery was abolished and it's been some time since anyone got "shanghaied" and forced to work on board a cruise ship. Anyone working on a cruise ship is there because THEY CHOSE TO BE THERE. Please don't lecture us all about the long hours and tough conditions. If anyone on any ship does not want to do that kind of work, they can walk away at any time.

Please refrain from your self-appointed holier than thou lectures. If you have moral objections to supporting the cruising industry, may I respectfully suggest the following course of action: Don't take a cruise! However, don't come up here to insult all the rest of us, calling us "ignorant" and without a conscience simply because our position differs from yours. Your intolerance and disdain of anyone's position other than your own makes it quite apparent that there's not one little opening in that closed mind of yours. I leave you with the words of the great Bernie Taupin, songwriting partner to Elton John, from the "GoodBye Yellow Brick Road" album:

Tell me, Grey Seal,
How does it feel to be so wise?
To see through eyes that only see what's real?
Tell me, Grey Seal.

Wow, thanks for pointing this out. I had no idea but now that I do I just called Princess and cancelled my cruises. I'm letting my friends know so they can all cancel their cruises also.

Is there any other industries out there that I should be aware of and avoid doing business with??

Do you think it is really necessary to buy cruise insurance? I am going on a cruise with a large amount of people in December and we've already booked the cruise, do you think that with such a large group it is necessary? As of right now, I believe my grandparents are the only ones to buy the cruise insurance in case one of them falls ill prior to the cruise. Also, is it too late to buy insurance? Any idea roundabouts on prices? I mean is it like $300 pp or....150 or...? Thanks

If one of the grandparents fell seriously ill, how many other family members would cancel also? There are lots of reasons to buy cruise insurance aside from the cancellation of the cruise. I believe Princess Care is $99/pp for trips up to $1,500 and $129pp for more than $1,500 - but I don't know what the upper limit is (you can find it on the Princess page if you do a search). I would not travel without it. Having to be treated for a medical condition in a foreign country or airlifted back to the U.S. would be major reasons, in addition to trip cancellation or interruption insurance. It is not too late to buy it - call Princess or your TA. There are certain providers who require that you buy it 7-21 days after booking to include pre-existing health conditions, not sure if that's a Princess rule or not. You may want to check out www.insuremytrip.com to compare prices; some may be cheaper than Princess but keep in mind that Princess covers cancellation for any reason and other insurers do not; however Princess will not reimburse the cruisefare they will credit it to a future cruise. Lots to learn about insurance - check with a good TA or call Princess if you prefer.

I too was disappointed with the response I received from Princess in regards to my concerns and complaints . It took several months and several people before I even received a letter and for all that aggravaion the wanted to give us 50.00 per person . Well you know what they can do with that. It would have to be a fabulous give away before I ever sailed with them again . They say the best form of advertisement is through word of mouth . They are failing miserably .
JudyO,

I disagree with you that if Princess makes an exception for the OP they need to do so for everyone. That's why humans have the ability to reason and use judgment.

Or if you put it in another way.... humans have the ability to whine and complain!! and not take accountability for their own actions.
Dave/Westwind,
Interesting, though, the OP hasn't replied to the thread since the original post. Hmmmm.......
Maybe it was a USENET user trolling here instead of the news groups...
Dear Nita, The OP posted once and just as this was winding down comes another 1st post, off topic, but sure to generate responses. AKA "One Post Wonders"
Jenice, thanks! My confusion was over WHY someone would post such a ridiculous reply, period! And, why would they be on a cruise board, if they don't cruise? Another disgruntled person, maybe!

Largin, great googling! :D

Interesting how both screen names only have a single post on the entire Cruise Critic board and that the names were created within a short time of their only post??

Sad……………

I think some folks just come here, to cause a stir! Works well, too.

Wow, was that abrupt. If you sincerely wanted to educate us, and took the trouble to post here, why didn't you also include some "Links" to other Web sites for us to check out these claims? We are Web people here. That would seem a natural way to further your arguments...but you are probably not listening by now anyway.icon12.gif

When u get right down to it.. we know to buy insurance, thats not the point. Everything everywhere has lost its personal touch. Princess can re book a stateroom with no probelm..It all comes down to corporate greed.

My sympathies are with the original OP regarding the health problem. However, the rules are clearly stated and if corporations (i.e. cruiselines) broke the rule for one, it would set a very expensive precedent. We have been traveling world wide since the 1970's and these rules apply to tour companies, air lines, as well as cruise lines since then. Clients do have a responsibility to protect themselves from the unexpected and should not expect the "corporations" to take the hit.
