costa magica west med hop on hop off buses

We will be on the Magica 10/29/11 and some of the choices of the ships excursions are horrible. I am thinking about doing the hop on hop off bus in Valencia, Spain and in Majorca. Have any of you ever done them? How far is the bus stop from the ships terminal? Any help would be very appreciated. I did book a tour in Naples which they cancelled-it was Pompeii and Sorrento. I have just booked a private tour for the 4 of us to do Pompeii, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. Wish I knew names of some people on the cruise so I could offer them the tour it would lower the price and they would get to see a lot that day. I also booked the tour on the ship when we go to Savona and the tour we booked is a full day trip to Monaco. Our other port is France-Marseille but we dock from 1-7 pm so I thought we would just wander around on our own. Like I said any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Marian

Hi

I've done the hop on hop off bus in Valencia. It was a good way to spend the day as Valencia has two key areas:- the old centre which is very pretty and has some interesting history regarding El Cid and the Spanish fight against the Moors and then there is a more outlying area (closer to the port) which contains very innovative modern architecture. This area contains the aquarium and various arts centres.

I think the general cruise way of dealing with Valencia is for the port bus to take you to the edge of the port and then there is a public bus which takes you into town. I would recommend doing this and picking up the hop on hop off bus from the old town city centre.

You will have a great day at your Naples stop - definitely right to go for the Pompeii/Amalfi coast combo rather than Capri or Naples :-)

Thanks for the info did you buy your tickets online or on the bus when you got there? I didnt care for any of the excursions the ship has offered so I thought we might do better with the bus on our own.

At Palma the Hop on hop off bus is at the terminal gate, usually where the ship docks...the main attraction is the Cathedral , tip if you visit this check the stop before, as this will help you avoid the long queues at the Cathedral stop.

Also a very cheap Duty Free shop at this port, under the walk way. Hope it helps and have a great cruise g

At Valencia, we paid and got on at the main square in the old town where there were a lot of signs for the hop on hop off service. I would imagine you could book online as well, but you may have to investigate.

We have been to Majorca and the ship offer an excursion with bicycles and take you round. We booked our bicycles privately through internet and paid like Eur 12 each!! had an amazing day. Otherwise, the bus is just across the road and takes you up to the centre of Palma.
