Celesta Posted August 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2011 I am renting a camera for my first snorkeling trip. The choice boiled down to two options: Canon D10 and Sealife DC1200. Which one should I take?
Celesta Posted August 10, 2011 Author #2 Share Posted August 10, 2011 So, 36 views and no opinions whatsoever? Has anyone tried Sealife DC1200? How good is it?
TrqoisWtrs Posted August 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2011 Going by the reviews on the photo forum, the Canon is a really popular camera. Not sure about the other.
Capt_BJ Posted August 10, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2011 the canon camera is a land camera that is supposedly good to 30 feet under water This unique camera is waterproof down to 33 feet http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_214042_-1 The Sealife camera is a "true" underwater camera tested to 200 feet . Depth tested to 200ft. http://www.sealife-cameras.com/cameras/dc1200.html In other words you are comparing a dive camera to a water protected land camera. For snorkeling you'd probably be OK with the Canon. If the retal price was the same I'd take the SeaLife since as a dive camera the controls and viewer have been adjusted for u/w use . . . The Sealife has a much higher purchase cost and a smaller target audience so expect few reviews. But divers know that dedicated dive cameras can not be faked for a few dollars. for one time snorkeling, go to Target and buy their throw away 35mm film underwater camera . . . . $20 bucks for 2 36 exposure cameras was the last deal I got. Then scan the pics (if they are decent) or have the processor send them online or CD . . . . btw - first time snorkeling? ..... forget the camera and focus on not killing anyone or any coral . . . . saltybones Posted August 22, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2011 We just bought a Sealife DC1200, but, won't get to use it until Oct. 9th. By the way, my DH is a certified diver, I am not, so when we go snorkeling in Oct. He will be holding the camera not I. I do good to just look at the pretty scenery. Yes, please stay off the coral.
slabeaume Posted August 29, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 29, 2011 These are taken with the Canon D10. I love the little camera and it's easy to use underwater. Most of these pictures are edited a bit, but not much. https://picasaweb.google.com/slabeaume/20102011KauaiUnderwaterPictures?authuser=0&feat=directlink
