collectingcoke Posted September 15, 2011 #1 Posted September 15, 2011 My PCC just called and said, "I have great news for you I just upgraded you to a 2 bedroom family suite with a balcony" now you'll have a balacony. I told him but I am in a Penthouse Aft facing suite with a large balcony - so I'm not interested, only 2 of us so don't need an extra bedroom, no real advantage that I could see. He then called back a few minutes later and said he was able to switch it back. What? I would not have been happy if he gave away our great cabin for one we didn't want or agree to. I told him , only if he could give us the DOS with balcony I'd take it, he said "Oh I can't do that, I would if I could". For a few minutes I think my heart stopped, my prized 10226 aft penthouse almost left me.

wacopolumbo Posted September 15, 2011 #3 Posted September 15, 2011 That is unusual. I see why you wouldn't want to move. Funny that he changed your cabin and THEN called you. You figure he would call you first. Dexddd is correct, the DoS on the Dawn/Star is balconyless. I have yet to receive any of those kinds of calls.
CruiseKarma Posted September 15, 2011 #4 Posted September 15, 2011 Sounds like upgrade calls are starting for our cruise. Maybe I should keep my eye out for an available AFT cabin. The reason I booked this cruise was they had an AFT balcony - not realizing they moved Spinaker to underneath my room. It's become very costly moving so I could feel comfortable that I could sleep. Would love to see something open back up to move back!

But we did not book with NCL directly...we used a TA. I would want to have a choice and not just moved. Glad it worked out for you.
biker@sea Posted September 15, 2011 #6 Posted September 15, 2011 I specifically instructed my P.C.C. no upgrades no cabin change when I booked our Aft cabin.
RareBird Posted September 15, 2011 #7 Posted September 15, 2011 2 bedroom family suite is incredible with a huge master bath the size of whole room and a second bedroom, plus 4 TVs [one above the jetted bath tub]! You passed it up for a aft penthouse you can have any cruise?!? ... not in my book :(
mobster75 Posted September 15, 2011 #8 Posted September 15, 2011 If they were looking forward to a larger balcony and enjoying that space, then the 2-BR Family Suite would not be for them since it has a tiny balcony to compensate for the large interior area. To each his or her own :D 2 bedroom family suite is incredible with a huge master bath the size of whole room and a second bedroom, plus 4 TVs [one above the jetted bath tub]! I would have been royally P.O'ed If my TA did that without instruction,...they'd no longer be my TA! Biker: Thats exactly what I would do given the same circumstance,..infact I told my TA "NO Upgrades-Unless It's an AFT Balcony or Aft Suite!" Bill(DrFootball) This Medal is awarded to the Aviator who has “distinguished himself by Heroism, Gallantry or Extraordinary Achievement while participating in aerial flight.” - The Army Distinguished Flying Cross Bill's Brainiac Random Quote Generator V0.95 final beta for Mac
mraven Posted September 15, 2011 #10 Posted September 15, 2011 This is all because the SE and SF sofa beds came in and they don't sleep 2 like they were led to believe. Many that have 4 in a cabin have been upgraded (since yesterday) to rooms that accommodate 4. Looks like the OP was upgraded by someone who didn't look too closely at the number of occupants. Glad they were able to switch you back.

JMHAM1 Posted September 15, 2011 #12 Posted September 15, 2011 I have heard they have started doing this because of the sofa bed situation. I'm not certain but others who have more experience with this ship said they did not see how a larger sofabed would fit into that space. I wouldn't care about the size of the balcony as long as we still had one.

JYeagersGrl Posted September 16, 2011 #14 Posted September 16, 2011 That happened to us on our first cruise. We had booked an oceanview and at that time documents still came in the mail before your cruise LOL. I was looking at them and thought what the heck this isn't the room I booked. In our case it was a good result though got bumped from lowest oceanview possible to the best room onboard the ship aft suite upper level so we could sunbathe without fighting for chairs and the balcony wrapped around half the back of the ship.
vi-guy Posted September 16, 2011 #15 Posted September 16, 2011 thats what happens when you don't use a TA and go direct, you don't always get the best pricing, they give you the cabins TA wont sell, they automatically add insurance with out asking and change cabins on you with out asking. So I guess thats why people think they get a better deal going direct. Especially since NCL's PCC are in Arizona and have never even seen the ocean never mind being on the ships as most are in their teens to early 20 something just passing through. Thats a hard fact. In fact they get an 80% turn over evry year of PCC's

In fact they get an 80% turn over evry year of PCC's That's a pretty broad brush. I booked with the same PCC 2 years running and insurance was never automatically added. I also received a call from NCL direct and was given the option of my free upgrade to the S3 Owners suite from the then current SE penthouse. I am left wondering if the same would have happened with a Travel Agent. You just never know either way.
AWorldCruise4Me Posted September 16, 2011 #17 Posted September 16, 2011 I think he just accidentally called the wrong number. He sounded like he thought he was talking to someone else, someone with an ocean view cabin. Likely he just checked his notes and said you got your cabin back when in fact he had never given it away. He was probably too embarrassed to tell you of his mistake but he should have as you are now wondering what he is doing without your authorization. I bet the real intended recipients of the call were thrilled when he actually called them. Have a great cruise! Michelle
bonvoyagie Posted September 16, 2011 #18 Posted September 16, 2011 Call me old fashioned, but when I started crusing 9 yrs ago, NCL did not want to handle anything directly - everything had to go through one of their TAs and I am still using the same TA today and he is also my PCC as I can ask him questions about various ships, ports as all he does is cruise line travel. He has been on several different cruises and cruise lines and he also knows us and our likes and dislikes and will make recommendatons to us based on all the factors. He also has alternate connections into his cruise lines and can get the info it would be hard for us to get. I was interviewed for a PCC job for RCCL but the commute and pay were not woth it. They really wanted me because I am not a 20 something and I have cruised before and have sales and customer service experience.
garycarla Posted September 16, 2011 #19 Posted September 16, 2011 pretty sure this is all tied to that sofabed thing. Personally, I would take the 2BR suite over the regular suite so fast....
