LIVE From the Oasis of the Seas - Sailing 17 September 2011 (Saturday)

Recommended Posts

Dinner in the MDR was very good tonight.

Sorry but we were talking and I completely forgot to shoot photos.

The Lamb Shank was very good.

NOTE: I read somewhere on the CC Boards that you could ask your waiter to have a cheese tray and a fruit tray waiting for you when you arrived. I tried it and it worked. Two regular plates filled with fruit, cheese, and a few cracker were delivered tonight as soon as we sat down.

Could you snap a picture of the tray sometime this week before you leave the ship.

Thanks

Jimbo:)

Tomorrow we will be docked in Falmouth.

This is a new port and I have never been there so we are both looking forward to seeing it.

I will take lots of photos.

Getting ashore from the gangway to the terminal and shopping area is a concern but we will have to wait until tomorrow to see how it works out.

Thank you so much for sharing your cruise with us. We just got off of Allure yesterday. The Allure is an amazing ship but much to big for us. We had a D1 oceanview balcony cabin and the cabin was the smallest we have ever had. We missed the feel of being on the ocean and the little touches that RCCL seems to have done away with. We went the entire week and never did meet our cabin stewart. We ate dinner at Giovannis Table and it was the worst specialty restaurant we have ever experienced. The tables are so close together and it was just about as loud as our local PF Changs. The couple sitting next to us had flip flops, tee shirts and shorts on. The food was excellent but it certainly wasn't the special atmosphere we are used to at Portofino. We didn't even bother staying for dessert. We expressed our displeasure to the hostess as we left, not that she seemed to care. My husband inquired to the hostess as to why they allow people in flip flops and shorts in and she told him that they are more relaxed than they used to be.

We were going to do a family cruise next October on Allure for my 50th birthday but we changed it to my favorite RCCL ship, Freedom. Looking forward to the rest of your trip.

I think someone asked about "Coolers of Beer" and this is what I found. The first time you get it you pay for the soft sided cooler but from then on you only pay for the beer.

Could you please find out the initial cost and to refill. I'm not sure if this is available on the Freedom but I hope so. One of our party only drinks beer. Thank you so much.

We ate at Giovanni's Table last year on Oasis and it was wonderful!

We went at lunch and were virtually alone until about 12 officers from the ship arrived and sat at one table. I figure the officers know who has the best food!

Three points...

1. As I remember Giovanni's advertises that it is "casual."

2. The cost is significantly lower than the other specialty restaurants.

3. Sorry you walked out before dessert. The tiramisu was terrific!

My experience on Allure: the cooler was free with the purchase of 8 beers. If you want to refill the cooler, you'll get 8 beers for the price of 7. Price depends upon the type of beer selected.

Of course it could be different on each ship, if the ship has them at all.

Day 4 - Tuesday - Colonial Falmouth

Good Morning Everyone,

Here are two screen shots from the Bridge Info channel on our Cabin TV

DSCN3518.jpg

When I left our Cabin for the Café Promenade and morning coffee I noted that the ship was testing the Emergency Evacuation Lighting System. It was sort of neat to see it all lit up and I got a better understanding of how it works.

I an really looking forward to visiting Falmouth today.

The ship is scheduled to arrive at 10:00 am with the Gangway opening at 10:30.

All aboard time is 5:30 pm.

Many, many years ago I used to read "dime novels" about "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" and Falmouth was featured in many of them.

Here is a quick shot from this morning's Compass.

DSCN3525.jpg

We will be going ashore later this morning but we are not signed up for any excursions. Today we are in the "check it out" mode.

Enjoying your "Live from the Oasis"!! Thank you for inviting us to cruise along. When you have a chance could you tell me what night the Love and Marriage show is. From a previous thread with an April Cruise Compass it was on the 3rd night. Would like to know if that is still the same. Also curious as to what your wife thinks of you doing these "Live From..." threads and your fame when a fellow CCer meets you on a cruise? Can't wait for November!!!

Trainman – 2

I hope your day in Falmouth will be more enjoyable than mine. We were on Oasis earlier this month. I thought the prices were ridiculous in most of the shops in Falmouth. Ray-Ban glasses on the ship started at $120.00 and those I saw in one of the shops started at $200.00. The exact same purse I saw on the ship for $30.00 was around $60.00 in one of the shops. I bought a beer from a street vendor and the small bottle was $5.50. I am use to getting bargain beer in port not paying more than on the ship.

As for kids in the CL – the first night of the cruise there were several. Two little girls ran around the entire time they were in there until one of them fell and started screaming and finally her mother went to pick her up. After that we came much later and did not experience any children except for one little boy who was extremely well behaved. One of the ships personnel (he was involved with the Chef’s Table) told us there had been some challenges since the new policy started.

After 30 +/- cruises I never thought of the sunrises just the sunsets!!!

When we board the Oasis October 1, I'll be thinking of this gift you gave us!

We are docked in Falmouth!

The docking was a "Back In" and was an impressive feat of ship handling.

We were cruising along the island and I shot this photo of a nifty looking place using the telephoto option on my camera.

DSCN3536.jpg

Shortly after I realized that we had stopped and were turning so I hobbled from the bow to the stern and shot the following photos as we backed in.

If you look at the first several photos above you will see something that looks like a red Pirate Ship.

Here is a photo of it across the roof tops after we docked

DSCN3582.jpg

I don't know it what I see is a high rise trampoline or a sun shade but I am going to investigate it if I can get to it.

Interesting?
