wailea4me Posted September 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2011 We are looking at an Alaska southbound cruisetour next summer (2012) and comparing Princess and Holland - 7 days on land and 7 day cruise. They both stop at the exact same ports. They have the exact same nights in Fairbanks, Denali, Anchorage and Seward. The difference is Holland is cruising the first day at sea and in Glacier Bay the 2nd day. Princess is at Hubbard Glacier the first day and Glacier Bay the 2nd day. It seems like Holland gets more favorable reviews on these boards than Princess. But Princess offers both Hubbard and Glacier Bay. Any thoughts? Has anyone done these? rayliang Posted September 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2011 I'd take Hubbard + Glacier Bay
Sandi3667 Posted September 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2011 I too would choose the Hubbard & Glacier Bay itinerary, all other things being equal. You may wish to check the port times for each port. If one has a short stop in one port, that could be a consideration.
Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted September 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2011 Princess did a very nice job.
Budget Queen Posted September 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2011 For clairfication, I can guarantee the cruisetours are not the "same". Princess does NOT stay in Seward, and with a 7 day add on, they very likely have the Princess McKinley lodge listed?? Doesn't HAL, have College Fjords? Are the port times the same? Why don't you copy the cruisetours you are looking at, for more detail. If you haven't already, be certain the cruisetour goes where you want to tour, and you have allowed for all the time in transit. HAL has the edge, if using the railroad, with all forward facing seats. Princess has table seating with two riding backwards.
