Conquest Review 3/27-4/03 Part 1

Recommended Posts

Well here it goes, I'll do my best. I'm sure I'll forget things and add them later. I will answer any questions you may have about any part of my trip.

Dave

Embarkation: We live in New Orleans so we didn't leave our house until 2pm. There were no lines to the counter. We sat in the beautiful yellow chairs for about 10 min. Then another 15 min in line and finally onboard! Our room was on the Main Deck about midship which came in handy on days 1 and 6 when half the ship was sick. Low and in the middle is the place to be on rocking days!

We explored the ship. It really isn't hard to get around being that it is so big. We had wanted the 6:15 seating but since there were 20 of us, we somehow were put in at the 5:45 seating. It really wasn't too bad eating at this time. I'll tell you about dining later. Muster Drill at 5:30ish was a piece of cake. Back to the room and time for our first dinner. We were in the Monet Dining Room at the rear of the ship and had spectacular views all cruise long of sunsets and ports.

Dining: Our wait staff was phemomenal. I think all the food was way above average, remember that they are feeding 3000 people. We often ordered many dishes at a time. Often, the waiters and waitresses would dance and sing after we ate. I was even "forced" to get up and dance on a table one night.

To be continued....

Just wanted to add a few things here. I ordered the "romance package" and I think it was well worth the cost. Waiting in our room was q bottle of sparkling wine, 2 champaign flutes,2 visors,2 tshirts,4 drink coupons and a 15 dollar photo coupon. All items were used on our cruise!

How was the weater the rest of the trip? We leave on Sunday on the Conquest, can't wait the hear more on your trip. Our 1st cruise was in September 2002 on the Holiday. We just happened to sail the week of Hurricane Isidore and had rough seas until we made it to Cozumel. People were sick everywhere but wife and I both wore the patch and never felt sick. Seas were running about 20-25ft the 1st sea day. There was a long line of luggage waiting to get off in Cozumel:)

Also what kind of shore excursions did you do?

Thanks for the info!

Elation last year and did the Pleaseure island (too much$$$ for the trip).

I look forward to yoiur review(s).

Can you help with these questions:

  • Would you please tell us about the Cruise Director - who (him/her - age) fun or boring - asst Cruise Directors - who's the best for fun
  • How were the shows
  • Casino - I hopet hey have $5 dollar table for this cheapie!
  • We can wait to R&R and have a blast staying at Embessy Suites 2 days prior to sailing and walking to the ship - any problems with that - seems like 2 blocks or so.
  • Airport transpotation. We don't fly our until 3PM Sunday, so I guess that won't be bad.
  • Plemty of kids - right?

DG:The cruise director is Todd Wittmer(sp?). He was a blast. Easy to find and a lot of fun for adults and kids. There were several asst. directors, one that comes to mind is "big kevin" from England. He is hilarious and constantly funny. I don't know how they can do it 7 days a week.

The shows were ok, we didn't go to all of them. The shows the first 2 nites were entertaining and informative especially the first nite when they introduced the staff and crew. The schedule was changed up due to rough seas and we saw a pg rated singer the second nite who was very funny and good. They moved the vegas shows later on to when we got to smooth seas and I was too busy doing other fun thinds to go.

In the casino, I just played some slots, but I think they had $5 tables especially during the day. You should post this question on the board. I'm sure many people would know the answer.

The Embassy Suites is a nice hotel and close to the pier. It is a little bit of a walk to get to the French Quarter but an easy cab ride.

Airport transportation should not be a problem. They have plenty of cabs and Carnival has several large airport shuttle buses you can sign up for. Beware though, it is a zoo outside the terminal at debarkation.

As far as kids, I'm not sure what you meant but our group of 20 had 8 kids ages 10-16 and an infant and all had a great time with plenty to do.

Hlsess:I'm not that familiar with hotels in the quarter, since I just go downtown from home. You should post this question on the New Orleans board under ports of call. I know there are many travelers who read that board who can give you more specifics. I personally like the Hilton Riverside it's close to the pier and the quarter. You might want to look into doing a "zoo cruise" which leaves downtown and then drops off at the zoo. That way you can get the best of both worlds. The aqaurium is great and so is the D Day Museum, if your kids would be interested. Post this question on the NO board as well and you'll get many recommendations.

Enjoy our fun city!
