Conquest Review 3/27-4/03 Part 2

Recommended Posts

Please bare with me, I have young kids and it's hard to write a lot at a time.

The first night we went to the show in the beautiful lounge and had a great time meeting the staff. Todd the Cruise Director and "Big Kevin" were fun the entire trip.

First Sea Day: The ship was really rocking and rolling. I'd say that almost 1/3-1/2 of the passengers were sick. thankfully, I did ok. We found a great place to lay out. Go to Deck 10 right above the engines all the way in the back of the ship. It was nice and quiet, not a lot of spring breakers back there. The beverage service was great and I must say, we kept them quite busy.

Food was pleantiful on the Lido deck. The deli is everything that you've heard. Great Rueben sandwiches. My son must of had 100 slices of pizza, it was very good as was the ceasar salad from the pizza place. The hamburger grille was also very yummie. The burgers and hot dogs hit the spot on several occaisions after a lot of sun and drinks. We never ate lunch or breakfast in the dining room, but I heard from friends it was good. All of our breakfasts were at the buffet. Even though the ship was sold out, we never had to wait too long in any line. Another tribute to the great staff.Dinner was a great lobster tail, I should have ordered 2! If you really like lobster, get 2 or more of them. I had some steak and made a little surf and turf.

That night we went to the Degas lounge and saw a Phillipino band play rock and roll songs. They were very entertaining. The Carnival social crew were doing a kind of "pub crawl" and when they came into our lounge they were hilarious. "Big Kevin" almost proposed to my friend's 70yo mother! I was surprised to see how much the social crew members were drinking while on the job, even though it was a pub crawl. It didn't bother me too much however.

My kids are getting antsy, more to come soon...

Just wanted to add some info about the rooms. We had a 6B oceanview on the main deck midship. It easily accomodated myself, my wife and my 11yo son. The bathroom was fine and never got too wet after showering. The safe was easy to use, I used my library card to lock it. Do bring a power strip. We plugged in our own clock radio which doubled as a nite light. My wife also used her own hair dryer. The over door "shoe Holder" also came in handy for storage of stuff so our room didn't get too cluttered. Our room steward was fabulous and we never ran out of ice. BTW, it is easy to get to an ice machine if you need to.The room was always cleaned with great efficiency and we really never had to ask for anything because our steward thought of it already. The tv stations were cbs, nbc, cnn and ship channels.

I see that you brought a clock radio........is there not a clock in the room? If not, I'm going to have to remember to bring an alarm clock. We've got inside rooms this time and don't want to sleep the whole cruise away!:) About the rocking, was it because you ran into some bad weather or just because of all the turns going down the river to the sea?

You can call on your stateroom phone and get a wake up call if you do not have a clock. It did come in handy as a nite lite as well. the rocking was due to large waves and a cold front. The river was pretty calm and we really didn't rock much at all. Day 6 we hit 7.5-12ft. waves! Yikes, a lot of sick folks and staffers to say the least.

Thanx for the info. We'll be sure to bring all of our medicines!:)

Do you happen to know how much the "bucket of beer" is and do they take all the tops off when you get the bucket?? And where is the best location to find a bucket?? I think I need one know but the fridge is empty:(

Thanks for your info, can't wait for Sunday to get here.

almost forgot, how was traffic at the pier, my father-in-law will be dropping us off, won't be parking?

Bigdog, I'm not exactly sure of the price of a bucket of beer but I know other ccrs have posted the prices. I think you save about 40cents a beer. My beer was in cans so there was not a top issue. Any of the wait staff can bring you a bucket of beer. Actually what I did was bring on my own 12 pack. I ordered one bucket on deck on the first sea day and then went down to my cabin and kept filling it up with my own beer. It really brought the price down! It was good for icing down water as well. The traffic at the pier is very bad early on, before 1pm. We went at 2 and drove right up. Remember that if you arrive early, you will be in the same traffic line as the sad and depressed 3000+ people who just got off the ship. My advice even though you are anxious would be to wait just a little longer and go when the traffic dies down.

Thanks, Micktooth for a great review. My daughter and SIL are leaving on the Conquest April 17. My daughter has done several cruise but it is my SIL's first. I can't wait to hear all his stories. Although, they are just as excited about spending the night before in New Orleans. I just hope they wake up and don't miss the boat after a night on Bourbon St. Know what I mean!!!! My DH and I sailed in Dec on the Dream. I was a bit disappointed after sailing on Carnival so many times. We booked a family cruise with another daughter, SIL and 4 grandkids on the Conquest in September. I just love family vacations and what better way than to cruise. There is plenty to keep the kids busy and time for the adults in the sun and casino.:) If you have time let me know what you thought about Sunset beach. We are considering it in Sept. Our Grandkids ages are between 8 and 13, is there enough to keep them interested?

Setmesial: I posted my review for Sunset Beach on my review part 3, just look for it. Sunset Beach is the bargain of the century . Our entire group of 20 went and had a great time. It's a $2 per person 5 min.cab ride, make sure you get into a JUTA cab. For only $20 per adult and $10 per child you get to enjoy 3 pools, a couple of beaches and eat and drink to your hearts content, and we did! I would recommend this to everyone, it was one of the highlites of our trip. The kids can take out beach floats, kayaks, and boogie boards. There are also beautiful shells that have washed up on the beach and our kids spent hours collecting them, you'll have a great time!

As far as comparing the Dream to the Conquest, forget about it. There is absolutely no comparison. The Conquest was awesome in every respect. The staff was so friendly and helpful, the food was good and ship is beautiful. The Conquest is far superior.
