Paradise 3 day 4/1 thru 4/4 interesting trip

I am supprised I couldnt find another thread on this cruise. We had a great time as we always do but there were some ummm.... hickups that some of the cruise newbies on board freaked out on. The first was the Day at sea that ended up in San Diego for an emergency stop for one of the passengers. Not unheard of, but someone forgot to let the passengers know they were going to go hard to starboard to head to land and tossed everyone about. We were in the Paris restaurant on Lido and after the turn every table was clean as a whistle (well not the gross whistles:eek: on the lifevests). People were running for their lives thinking the ship was sinking. About an hour later the cruise director (Danny) came over the PA system to tell us we were headed to San Diego. The second (not Carnivals fault I think) was the ship took forever to clear customs. My wife and I didn't get off the ship till 1:15 and about a quarter of the PAX were still waiting. We had a 6 hour drive home after but I wonder about anyone with flights. I know some people were let off early but very few that I could see watching from the cafe.

A side note: shouldnt we get a discount for losing an hour when the clocks got turned back while on board? :D

Confused.

Redondo Beach?

They have flights from Long Beach to LAX? Isn't a bicycle faster?

Confused.

I would love to hear about the rest of the cruise. How did you enjoy it? For the Redondo Beach question - this is a true story from when I lived in the Southern California. I took the train from Orange County to San Diego thinking I would make better time than driving...but 4 hours later, I was still on the train. Sometimes in Southern California, maybe flying is better! LOL

phroggie, taking off to Las Vegas immediately afterwards, to finish off a complete full week of fun fun fun:)

Well if there's one flight I wouldn't worry about missing, it would be LAX to Vegas (unless you're on the 4 day and arriving/flying Friday). Since SouthWest has a hub at McCarren, if you miss your flight, they have another cattle car, I mean flight right after it. And if you miss those, you can drive. Of course if it's Friday, it's not that simple.

Or as Kermit the Frog said when Dom Deluise told him he had a plane to catch: "With that tongue, never!"

The cruise was great. Embarkation was fast and we were on the ship in 10 minutes and those went by fast because we noticed someone ahead of us in line that used to be the host of a show we used to watch called "Unscrewed with Martin Sargent". He was part of a wedding party and I got to talk to him a couple of times durring the weekend. Boat drill is boat drill altho I am an avid supporter of it becoming like a CPR class where you get certified and dont have to do it again for the next 2 cruises or 5 yearsbiggrin.gif .

Being our second time in Ensenada we decided to do the Fox Studio's tour. It was just OK for us but that was mostly because of reasons beyond the control of the tour itelf. It included a lunch in Rosarito that consisted of rice, beans, 1 taco, 1 cheese enchilada, and a chile relleno(sp?) and a drink (either soft drink or margarita). Again OK but not great, but we live in Phoenix and these are standard here.

Our tablemates (8 ppl at a table for 10 counting us) for the weekend were cool and we hung out together after dinner on formal night till about 2 AM buying each other rounds. Altho, they were a bad influence on us. We have a rule of never using the elevator on the ship as penance for alchohol consumsionwink.gif , but hard to do in a group. In 4 cruises with Carnival, they seem to always supprise us with the dinner arrangements.

Formal night: We had the very first table on the starbord side of the Destiny restaurant for the 5:45 seating and got to see everyone that entered after us. This was the first time that we actually seen people get turned away at the door if they were not at least in shirt and tie. The funny thing about this to me was being a short cruise with a lot of people on the end of spring break I was expecting a more laxed than usual weekend and it was the opposite.

Never have had a complaint about the food on board and my wife just loves the little hockeypuck hashbrowns I have read people complain about. I usually ask a bartender to suggest a drink for me (drink of the day does not count) and this cruise the "carmel apple martini" became my friend.

We loved the shows, and comedy acts (I have paid good money to see a lot worse on land).

Our room seemed a little noisey at night, like some kind of generator kicking in about every 3 hours (we were midship, port side, Rivera Deck, Inside Cabin). It wasnt enough to keep wake us up, but others must have complained because they had matenaince in the rooms near us sunday morning and didn't hear the noise that night.

I already mentioned debarkation dragged way more than usual and the unexpected layover in San Diego. Long and short of it, have yet to have a bad cruise. Some hickups along the way but that can happen in any vacation.

Bar bill for 3 nights: $250

Now that drink sounds great since I love Appletinis. It sounds like it was a nice cruise. The DH and I will just be happy to be not at work, on a cruise, relaxing with the DD and her by then new DH, having drinks, and did I say not at work! :D We have been to Ensenada so we will do a few quick shop and "adult beverage" stops and then back to enjoy the ship again! Thanks for sharing:)

I guess if there's a problem you can switch to LAX. There are just more options there.

FWIW, last August, we were in Northridge by about noon after the four day. That was taking the Passport C to the Blue Line to the Red Line. Based on that you should be safe.
