Epic Hull Balcony Listing - Includes maps & features

Great job of identifying the 'hull'balconies. Other than the location, I wouldn't mind booking one if the price was lower than a regular balcony. From what I have read so far, the price is the same as for any other balcony in that catagory. Is this correct?

When I cruised on the Carnival Dream My friend and I booked what they call a 'cove' balcony. It was on deck 2 but was the same as the 'hull' balcony. It was the lowest price balcony and clearly defined. Since we were cruising in Europe in Sept, on a port intensive itinerary, it didn't matter if we couldn't sunbathe on the balcony. It would have been hard to do in jeans and a jacket anyway.

I had not booked because of the confusion. Also, covered, uncovered and lifeboat specifics. I know some of the rooms look down onto those boats instead of the water. Thanks so much!!

I did a separate post on covered/uncovered balconies too. The link is in my signature as well!

Hi Mike,

I am kinda new to cruising, my second in Jan, 2012, on the Sun. While i was aware there were different balconies, i had no clue about these. Silly me. This is the kind of information, that is very helpful to newbies. Can only imagine how time consuming this must have been to you. Good thing we have helpful seasoned cruisers on here. I take my hat off to you Sir.

By the way what do you do in your spare time ? :D

once again Thank's

All information that has been shared on this thread is already known by NCL. They do not want people to know all about the ship in hopes some poor creature does not know exactly where they are booking. Helps fill the ship.

If I wanted to book a balcony and the only ones left were the hull or uncovered, we're booking and inside.

OK, do you mean NCL as in corporate (since they designed it, I'm pretty sure you are exactly right). Or do you mean the call center reps?

If you mean the call center reps or that NCL higher ups are keeping it from them on purpose to screw the customer, thats is pretty cynical thinking.

No company intentionally angers their customers. The book the ship by the use of the GTY pricing, not by being covert and angering the customers they seek to delight.

Thank you so much for doing this. We hadn't considered the Epic up to now and didn't have any idea these cabins even existed.

But we just got back from the Caesar's casino in Windsor, Ontario, where my hubby got a certificate for a free cruise. If we cruise before this March, we can take the Epic. We can pay for an upgrade from an inside to a balcony and this information is so helpful.

We haven't looked at the Epic before this, so don't know about the different balcony categories. I assume these hull balconies are all in the "Balcony" category and not the Mid-Ship Balcony (obviously) or Large Balcony. Is that correct?

No mid ship, but I believe some of them at least are under the Large balcony category

I think that's correct. Nothing midship or above deck 9. There are some rooms on 9 up front with large balconies, but I have not gone back and checked the rate category on those.

Yesterday I booked my room using this. I did not want a uncovered balcony and we prefer the Hull balcony, because we have a son that might be interested in taking a nice swim on the ocean. So it seems like the railing is a bit higher so he should be protected a little bit more

With so many recent threads on hull balconies, especially on the Epic, I thought I would dig a bit deeper into which rooms fall into the category and what specifically their attributes are. In general, these rooms are at the front of the ship and have an increased metal superstructure around the balconies in order to block the "elements" (excess wind, etc.) that you get with being up front. In all cases these rooms do not have glass beneath the railing, but the rest of the features differ in some cases (size of balcony, etc.). Hopefully this is of use to those planning a trip on the fabulous Norwegian Epic.

Deck 8

Deck 8 has 16 "hull" rooms, 8 on each side of the ship. These rooms are all the same. No glass under the railing, and a standard sized balcony. Included are: 8004, 8005, 8006, 8007, 8008, 8009, 8010, 8011, 8012, 8013, 8014, 8015, 8016, 8017, 8018, and 8019

Deck 9

Deck 9 has 10 "hull" rooms. ALL of these rooms have large balconies (double the size of standard balconies). This would make them more attractive. None of the rooms have glass under the railing. However, 9000, 9001, 9004 and 9005 have a much wider opening (less obstruction) than 9008, 9009, 9012, 9013, 9016 and 9017, the other hull balconies on deck 9. The wider openings and larger balcony of those 4 rooms might make them attractive to some even without the glass and full-sized opening

Deck 10

Deck 10 has 10 (appropriately so) "hull" balconies in the exact configuration as deck 9. They all have larger balconies. 10001, 10002, 10004, and 10005 have larger openings. 10008, 10009, 10012, 10013, 10014 and 10015 have smaller openings.

Deck 11

Deck 11 is just like decks 9 and 10. All the balconies are double the size of regular balconies, and four of the rooms are less obstructed than the others. The less obstructed rooms at 10000, 11001, 11004 and 11005. The more obstructed rooms are 11008, 11009, 11012, 11013, 10014 and 10015

Deck 12

Deck 12 is just like decks 9, 10 and 11. All the balconies are large. The less obstructed rooms are 12000, 12001, 12004 and 12005. The more obstructed rooms are 12008, 12009, 12012, 12013, 12014 and 12015

Deck 13

There are no "hull" balconies on deck 13 as best as I can tell from the deck plans. I believe the windows behind the bridge are for officer's quarters. There are no pax rooms shown on the deck plans in this area.

Deck 14

Deck 14 has 7 "hull" balconies (yes, I know this is an odd number). The port and starboard side layouts are slightly different, as you can see in the pictures below. All 7 of these rooms have STANDARD sized balconies and none of the rooms have larger openings. Other than the rooms on deck 8, these are probably the least attractive "hull" balconies on the ship since they are simply regular balconies with a blocked view. These rooms include 14000, 14001, 04002, 14003, 14004, 14005 and 14009

Here are a couple of images showing these rooms. You can see that the standard balconies right next to the "hull" balconies may not be very attractive either since the metal encroaches a bit on the edge of their balconies.

here is a link to deck plans so you can see where these rooms are, how they connect, and how many people they can hold. This is the "draggable" deck plan so you can align the decks.

Here are the pictures. The first number is the room on the starboard (shown) side. The second number is the corresponding room on the port (not shown) side.

In this image you can see how the deck 14 rooms are different

I hope this helps. Comments and corrections are welcome

Thank you for the link to the cabins that you can drag over each other but I don't see my cabins I booked that I saw on NCL website on the deck from the link provided.

I booked 2 connecting ICs 13413 adn 13417 right across the hall I booked 2 connecting BCs 13116 adn 13114. All four cabins are in the front of the ship on the left-hand side while looking at the computer screen. I can't find them on the link??? HELP.

You sure you booked the Epic? 13116 is an inside room, 13114 is an port mini-suite, and there are no 13413 or 13417 on the ship.

I booked the Breakaway but someone gave me this link, I thought, to look at the cabins for Breakaway.

Oh well, glad that confusion is not worrying about :)

THANKS.

Wish I had seen this thread a long time ago :(

We are on the Epic this Dec. 22nd and have cabins 12001, 12005, 12009, 12013, 12015, 12017 booked. I had no idea that 5 of the 6 are these 'hull" cabins. One of my favourite things to do is sit on my balcony with my feet on the plexiglass staring out over the water. I really wish the NCL person I booked all these cabins with would have at least explained and not just "sold" me on the fact that they are larger balconies. Feeling really let down right now, especially since my mom is taking us all on this cruise for Christmas and I was the one to convince everyone to go with NCL.
