Everything About the Pride but were Afraid to ASK

Please share your info about the Pride here. :)

We are sailing out of Baltimore in March with alot of newbies

I have been on the Pride 3x out of Baltimore and about to do #4 in January. She is a really beautiful ship. A few things to know:

1. The Lido deck is very slippery, more than any other ship I have been on. I saw more people fall than I could possibly count especially going from the aft pool area to the centrum pool area. So, you always wear rubber soled shoes of some type and walk a little more slowly.

2. The buffet is probably offers probably the best variety I have seen on any of the cruises I have been on. I especially love the Deli. I get my fill of Reubens on the cruise. The Chinese food is also very good.

3. The entertainment at the atrium bar is quite good. I enjoy standing by the elevator and listening.

4. David's Steakhouse is a must. It is well worth the extra money. I have already booked it for our cruise.

5. The sports bar behind the casino can get crowded when there is a big sporting event going on. So if you want to watch the game, get there early.

6. By the Starry Nights lounge and Taj Mahal Theater on Deck #2, there is a little cafe where you can get some really nice pastries. I especially love the Strawberry shortcake. The piece is so big 2-3 people can eat it. The Sushi bar is there also.

If you want a nice private quiet place to sit and read, meditate or talk go to the Sunset Garden Promendade on Deck 3, front of boat. It is an out of the way place but just wonderful to sit and look out the windows.

I agree- very nice, out of the way place. We found it by accident one night after dropping the kids off at Camp Carnival, which is on Deck 5 (Upper) forward..

Pride is a great ship! We like to eat Anytime dining and that entrance is on Atlantic Deck 3, while the main entrance to the MDR is on Deck 2.

Let's see- Sushi trolley is on Deck 2 but is only open from like 5-8pm. If you have early seating for dinner you probably won't get a chance to try it, but if you have late seating or Anytime like me, it makes a great appetizer/snack...

We spent alot of time in the Ivory Bar (Deck 3 forward)...very fun piano sing along. If you have ever been to Howl at the Moon, then you would like this...

Any other questions just let me know. I cruised Pride August 2010 and will again in April 2012- I have 2 kids (both under age 10) so if any kid-related questions about Camp or just in general, feel free to ask!

Have a wonderful cruise everyone!!!

Diana, how was the pool and slide area? My DD is 8, will be almost 9 when we cruise, she can swim and doesn't need me right on top of her, but I like to be in eye shot. Sadly mostly so I can make sure other kids are not endangering her, I have seen unsupervised kids do some insane things that i know my DD wouldn't do. Were you able to let them swim and still sit and get some sun and relax?

No, I would not leave her...the pool is rather small and it is pretty deep in the middle. It can get pretty crowded so I always felt better keeping my kids within arms length. My DS9 is a great swimmer but my DD5 was almost 4 last cruise so I wouldn't leave her of course. But even if my DS was the only one swimming, I would still have sat by the side of the pool and not left...so unless you can snag a pool chair right in the first row you will probably feel more comfortable sitting by the pool, KWIM?

Now for the slide- the slide actually doesn't really go anywhere near the pool. It is a weird set up LOL!! The entrance to the slide starts on Deck 11 (sports) and ends on deck 10 (sun). My DS only used it once or twice because it was pretty windy during our sea days and they will not open the slide if it is too windy. Also, I made my DH stand at the bottom of the slide and wait for our son to come down while I would wait on the top deck near the entrance...and after waiting in a pretty long line we were able to convince him to just go play some basketball with DH. ;)

I'm getting ready to sail her for the 8th time next month!

I wouldn't recommend arriving any earlier than 11am. If you're driving, the lot will be blocked off to arriving passengers until that time. Even if you're a drop-off, they rarely board prior to 12:30, so you don't want to wait any longer than that.

I agree that the Lido deck is very slippery. The buffet area used to be the same, but that was fixed in dry dock. You will definitely want to wear rubber soles when walking about.

Believe it or not, we may be using the Pride MDR for the first time this next cruise. We don't like to dress for dinner, and usually in the warmer temps we wouldn't be wearing anything suitable. Since we're cruising in January, we'll already be dressed appropriately for the dining room, so it's ATD for us. We'll still hit the buffet on Elegant nights....but even I will be a newbie in some way.

In March, you will likely have pretty cold temps for several days of your cruise. Be sure to check the weather at each of your destinations so that you pack accordingly. I also suggest bringing a portable DVD player and some travel board games if the weather is going to be iffy. There is usually a lull in the entertainment when forced indoors.

The casino can get pretty crowded at night, and it's filled with smokers....so if that bothers you plan on doing your gambling during the day. We bought a house on the shore in Baltimore County last year, and it's one area where I don't think anyone has quit smoking, LOL! I haven't smoked in 20 years, but it doesn't usually bother me....except for the occasional rude person who blows smoke right in your face, so just be prepared to move around a bit if your sensitive to it.

We always order a bottle from Bon Voyage and bring our own mixers. DH and I walk around with our Tervis cups at night everywhere we go. We also have short, fat thermal mugs that we use for coffee in the morning. The tall coffee mugs won't fit under the dispensers.

Bring binoculars because sailing the Chesapeake is beautiful. In March you won't see much sailing out before it gets too dark, but plan on waking early on debarkation morning and check out the scenery.

If you have any specific things that you want to know about feel free to ask.

  • 3 weeks later...
Sunset Garden:located on the Atlantic deck all the way forward.

It does wrap around the front of the ship so there is no dead ends.

LOTS of naked statues and pictures.

you dont notice them as much towards the end of the week as you do the beginning.

Grand daughter loved them.

Best balcony on this class of ship is

6232 fo 4 people

or 7258 or 8232 for 2 people

try the banana split one night for dessert after dinner- Not on the regular menu but it is a kids menu itme and can be had each night.

Comedy show is UBER crowded and you should be seated about 45 minutes before a show to get a seat.

Needless to say-- we only saw the family friendly version

Just booked the 7258 for our Pride cruise in July. 2nd time on the Pride

Check out the Pride link in my signature for lots of pictures!

We loved the Pride, great times, only problem was we had a suite and the bathtub/shower was a challenge for me as it is raised up about a foot above the floor, with my bad legs it took a leap of faith getting in/out, next time just a regular balcony cabin will be fine.

Frankly, I love the buffet on the Pride ("Mermaid Grille") Never had any complaints about the food there, and on my last cruise they had some Seafood Newburg so good they must have stolen the recipe from Neptune.
