Carnival Valor--tell All Thread !!!!

Our cruise ended yesterday. We had a wonderful time and came back very relaxed and well rested. However, I still feel like I'm on the ship. This was my second cruise (Triumph in '03) and my husband's first. I will say that I felt sick a lot of the time from the constant jerking of the ship. I never experienced any of that on the Triumph (western Carib), so I thought that it was the open water versus the more sheltered waters of the western Carib. I think I will wear the patch next time. My husband was sick all day Saturday. He never gets sick. Oh, well...we made the best of it!

Hands down, the the shows were awesome! The 80's show was very entertaining for us because we're alumni from the 80's. If you're cruising on the Valor, don't miss the shows on the formal nights!!! Josh, the cruise director, is really funny.

We had an inside stateroom, which was nice. I'd like to upgrade to a balcony room in the future.

The food in the dining room was always delicious. Rosie's was buffet style. It was good, but not great. The grill hamburgers and minute steaks were good.

And yes, we had a jumper on Wednesday night enroute to St. Marteen. I can't believe anyone can jump from the 7th floor from a moving ship and survive. Apparently, he was seen by people going by their balcony at 3:00 am. He was hospitalized on the island. I was mortified by the whole experience! It was something that I thought of for the remainder of the trip everytime I passed by a railing or looked at the ocean (which was quite often).

Overall, it was fun. I would sail the Valor again.

If there are any recent past guests from the Valor--come and tell us all--so we can get a Valor fix before we set sail........

Toni, did you have any specific questions or do you just want a general review?

We just returned from the Eastern Valor and would be happy to assist with what we can.

Vic,

I don't have any specific questions but I am looking for any reviews that I can get on the ship and the ports. I am doing the Eastern route and I also have been to St. Thomas before. This will be my first time going to Nassau and St. Marten. also, I am very interested in the Vibrations that everyone keeps talking about. Is it the ship itself, something Carnival needs to fix or does it have more to do with the conditions of the ocean.

Thanks

ToniH

Wow, this was quite a trip. Let me first say that I have never cruised before and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. My husband and 15 year old daughter completely enjoyed our trip but I'm still getting my land legs back!!

For those of you who went to camp as a kid and loved it, you will love cruising and especially Josh your camp...I mean cruise director. He was interesting, light hearted and provided many opportunities to meet other campers/cruisers and try new things.

The food was very good, though I think the nightly entertainment was even better. The staff on board is top notch and truly committed to making your cruise all that you would hope for. They are friendly and attentive, but not in your way.

Our room was on the upper deck (6th floor) with a balcony...room 6231. We loved it. There was more than enough room and the water pressure in the shower was wonderful when you wanted/needed to get the salt water off!

We did not care for Nassau (though Paradise Island was beautiful) but totally loved St. Thomas and St. Martin (Pinel Island is well worth the effort to enjoy for an entire day...I'll post pictures soon, so you can see this slice of heaven).

The shopping in St. Thomas is what they say it is and both my daughter and I received diamonds from my husband (a first in 19 years so you can imagine my surprise). He even found a way to get us up on stage one night to give them to us!!

We did have one unusual even on the ship...a passanger jumped over-board. The crew did an amazing job of finding him and safely returning him to the ship and because my husband is a camera freak, we have some amazing shots of the rescue...again, I'll post soon). Just know that as friendly as the crew is, they are also very well trained to deal with any events that may crop up.

There is so much more to say, but I will close by just encouraging you to mix and mingle, meet some fun folks and enjoy everything this great ship and crew have to offer.

Interesting comment about sea legs and the Triumph. We sailed the Triumph two years ago and I thought the motion of the ship was very noticeable especially leaving Jamaica. We sailed the Glory last week and it was smooth as silk with the exception of the last night up the Florida coast which was very rough. Even John Heald mentioned on Saturday morning the rough seas. Took Bonine every day. If we hadn't have had a balcony cabin on the rough night, I would have gone up on deck. Being enclosed and having the ship rocking doesn't settle well with me. We've been home since Saturday night and I'm finally not "moving."

 I too was on 4/10 East. Carrib. sailing. True we did have a jumper, supposedly he was deperessed to have lost a lot in the Casino,(I probably should have blown my brains out with that scenario), but the Excellent way the situation was handled by the Officers and Crew of the Valor definitly shows they are in the Top of the Carnival Organizational Team. The Crew of the Valor are obviously the Cream of the Carnival Crop. The Captain has been with the ship from throughout it being built and knows every inch if her. Most of the Staff was hand picked for the Valor-the Flagship of Carnival Cruiseline. I was very impressed with everything on the Valor( Food,Service, Cleanliness, friendliness of the Crew). A Cruise on the Valor will definitly be the best money you ever spent.

We go on the Miracle in November, can't wait to compare it to the quality of the Valor.

We just returned from Eastern Carribean Valor 04-17-05. The cruise was great!

In Nassau we took a cab to Atlantis hotel, go through the casino then down the stairs to see the aquarium for free. Then we left to go one block down to the beautiful public beach for 2 hours. We took a cab wach your time traffic gets bad. In St. Thomas we used Sunny Liston Tours $20 per person he meets you at the ship takes you shopping for two hours then a two hour guided tour of the island, then we went to Sapphire beach. Large beautul beach lots of fish. his web site is www.sunnylistontours.com In St. Marten we went to Orient beach,

another great time.

We are sailing the Valor 10/16 and can't wait. We just got back from the Glory 4/9 sailing and that made us even more anxious for our trip on the Valor. From what I understand, the Valor and Glory are sister ships which will make getting aclimated very easy for us. If the food and service on the Valor is anything like the Glory (my guess it is) you will not be disapointed. I look forward to reading more reviews and suggestions.

We just got off the Glory on the 23rd, had great weather! I don't think they allow enough time in Nassau, you have to be back on board by 1:30, too much rushing in my opinion. Went ot Coki Beach in St Thomas, and beached it right off the ferry in St Martin, right by the shopping, had a great day.

I thought the food was okay, not enough variety in my opinion(been on 16 cruises), the Emerald Room was fantastic, we almost did it the last night again but felt bad about not seeing our waiter.

We are going on a cruise with the entire family, my dad is taking us for my mom's 65th birthday, we have 9 cabins booked. Unfortunately, Carnival will not give us any ammenties for some strange reason and we are spending extra because it is Christmas-New Years week. The only reason we are going this week is because my son will be in college and it is the only week the kids will have the same vacation. Oh well, we are excited to be sailing on New Years Eve and I think the Valor will be great for every age catergory we have. Never been to Belize or Roatan, so hopefully we won't be dissapointed.

I was on the Valor in January on her third or fourth sailing and we had a great time.

As to a poster's question about a bar near the fish and chips which is upstairs above Rosie's, no, there isn't one. However, you are never far from a bar no matter where you are on the Valor!

Chair saving by the pool is crazy. I got up one morning to take photos of the sunrise at 6:30 and people were already out. But, this is mainly by the pool area and overlooking the pool area. If you don't have to be in that particular area, you can find chairs later than that.

In the beginning of the cruise, the Prometheus pool is less crowded until people realize it is there. It is supposed to be a no-kid pool although there were a few kids in it, but they were supervised.

The shows are awesome - don't miss them. And, this is just my opinion, but we thought Scarlett's was wonderful. Well worth the $$. We wanted to go again but ran out of time.

I won't go into the good and the bad - there is always that. But, as far as tips and tricks, these are just a few.

Hi I have put together a group of about 20 for the May 15th Valor to the Western Carribean. I cannot wait. Does anyone know if there is still a situation in Belize. I read last week there was some turmoil with a possible strike and so on. Any ideas of what time to get to the port. I am flying in a day early and would like to beat the crowds. Also any input regarding 9A aft would be great. 12 days and counting. Are there any other 05/15/05 Valor Cruisers????? Lets hear from you!!!
