GlitterGirlFL Posted January 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Anyone suggest a company private transfer from Heathrow to Port of Southampton. What you experienced - were they on time - Did you have a long time getting luggage and customs. Traveling in June to Independence of the Seas - one night hotel Holiday Inn. LeDemonBlond Posted January 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Last June, we were on the Independence. We ended up using First Choice Bus. Used them to get to Southhampton from London. And then from Southhampton to Heathrow. They were excellent. Definetely more expensive then some other services but you pay for what you get. 8 people in our party and easially accomodated (along with luggage). Very large vans which made for a comfortable ride. Both drivers we had were professional, good to talk with and on time ( a bit early actually ). Strongly recommend them. Traveling in June to Independence of the Seas - one night hotel Holiday Inn. We have used London Heathrow cars and Botleys of Southampton for transfers and both are very good for private transfers. On all occasions the drivers have been waiting for us in arrivals, contacted us by mobile phone to say they were there (and I guess to check how long we would be coming through baggage etc) and helped with our luggage through to the car. They have different vehicles depending on your party size and IMHO taking a private car as opposed to the bus or train may cost a wee bit more, or in some cases it may not! but either way it's worth it for the door to door service and timings alone. They will also keep an eye on your flight arrival so if there's any delays or you arrive early they'll know so again you don't have to worry about making a bus or train! Have a great trip!:)
Rare John Bull Posted January 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Anyone suggest a company private transfer from Heathrow to Port of Southampton. What you experienced - were they on time - Did you have a long time getting luggage and customs. Traveling in June to Independence of the Seas - one night hotel Holiday Inn. Expect to be in the arrivals hall about 60 mins after touch-down. Frequently used by cc'ers are www.westquaycars.com and www.smithsforairports.com Cost should be in the order of £80 - £90 for a standard car, journey time about 80 mins. Cheapest option is by coach, http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/index.cfm Direct service roughly every two hours, from Heathrow bus station (a short walk from terms 1 - 3) or from the terminal concourse at T4 and T5. Journey time something under 2 hrs, cost about £16 pp. This to Southampton coach station (ignore cruise terminal option, irrelevant for your ship) then walk about 10 mins, or a 2- minute / £5 taxi ride to Holiday Inn. By train http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search There's no direct train service from Heathrow, your train ticket buys you a coach shuttle to either Reading or Woking rail station where you transfer to the train. Several departures per hour, journey time around 2 hours, cost about £36 pp. Same walk or taxi hop in Southampton. Holiday Inn is adjacent City cruise terminal, where your ship berths. Also just a 10 min walk to the shopping centre (West Quay Mall & beyond) or to the historic part of the city. Ask for a high floor, a front room for views down Southampton Water or a rear room for views of the berth/ship. Useful map of hotels, cruise terminals etc on the London toolkit website -navigate via the airports header on their home page.
